Teaching is great except for all the admin bloat, terrible kids your not
allowed to discipline, parents angry that their terrible kids are failing,
parents emailing you constantly to grade the late work their kid turned in 4
minutes ago, admin punishing you for failing kids who dont do work, admin
punishing you for enforcing school rules too much, kids lying about you to
parents and admin, low pay even taking into account time off, stagnating
wages on the national scale even while a critical shortage is going on, admin
bloat taking most funding to insert more useless meetings during the week
that take up your prep and grading time, resource neglect by admin until
something risks making them look bad, enforced use of technology even when it
is a detriment, and other teachers acting like guttersnipes, and all that.
Every job has bad parts, you try to do the best you can

Im a language teacher in elementary school, today parents complained that I
have punished a whole class because one student. But there were multiple of
them yelling and causing a mess. But 2-3 were especially loud and I said that
because of multiple of students (not just because of the 2-3 loud ones) they
have to write down 5 sentences and complete them by inserting words for
different colours. If they have any complaints they should tell their friends
not to do cause a mess anymore. Its a less than 10min homework for children
age 9-10.
This got to the principal and I was told that I cannot punish them by extra
homework. THE PRINCIPAL has to deal with this stupid shit and I was to blame
for disciplining a class that is very problematic.
Can someone suggest how in the hell I can punish a whole class if they dont
listen to me without homework?
Wtf is going on with parents and school sistem in Croatia?
I feel powerless, its up to me to discipline them but all of my options are
taken aways from me. So yeah,as much as it can be a fun job at moments like
these I feels so angry and stupid. I need a break.
P.s. I told them my rules of behaviour and punishment right after I
introduced myself.

It massively depents on the school where you are teaching, I mean someone who
works at a posh private school will have a better work environment that
someone who works in a public school with a lot of problematic pupils

Teaching takes a certain breed. But it’s knowing one day you will wake up to
a foot of snow and your employer has told you to stay home. You don’t know
when that day will come. Could be tomorrow. Could be in three weeks. It’s
knowing there is possibility that it could happen. You get a paid day to be
at home.
