This native fruit tree is often grown for its ornamental qualities, including
showy flowers and pretty fall foliage, rather than its small fruits. Growing
8-10 ft. tall, the Native Plum Tree produces 1-inch fruits with red skins and
yellow flesh. The fruits are sometimes used for jellies and preserves. Native to
the eastern and central regions of North America, the Native Plum Tree is
drought-tolerant, once established. It's often grown as a hedge or privacy
screen. Two plants are required for pollination. Zones 3-8.

BARE ROOT NATIVE PLUM ARE DOING WELL

These four bare root trees arrived in good shape and after ten days in the
ground they are all coming out. We purchased these trees for our honey bees and
plum jelly. So far they are looking good.

WAS WORRIED AT FIRST, BUT NOT NOW!

I ordered and received 2 offers for a total of 4 dormant tree seedlings in early
April 2021. They arrived with dry, mostly bare roots and though tall enough for
one year old trees, seemed a bit spindly/scrawny. Because they arrived late in
the day, I placed their roots in a bucket of rainwater overnight. The next day,
I planted 2 in the ground and 2 in buckets because I ran out of strength to dig
so many deep holes. After a couple of weeks, three of the four had begun leafing
out. I was concerned that I planted a dead tree, but about a week behind its
siblings, the last tree finally began pushing out leaves, too. Now, nearly 2
months after getting them planted, the little trees appear healthy and growing
well. I will update my review in a couple or three years, when I expect to get
some fruit.

LARGER THAN I ANTICIPATED, ABOUT 18" TO 24" TALL.

These were larger than I anticipated and had pretty well developed root system.
I was present when FedEx arrived and immediately planted them in a bed in my
hoop house and watered them. I will reply back with an update on how they are
doing.

NATIVE PLUM TREES

I ordered 3 native plum trees. They arrived in good condition with good roots. I
planted them and they all leafed out within a week. They continue to thrive even
though they have been in the ground only a few weeks. I appreciate the prompt
service and care put into the delivery of my trees. I have looked for trees like
these for years and am excited to watch them grow and one day produce the fruit
I remember eating as a child.

you know...I remember eating these plums wild on sides of the road in alabama as
i was growing up to manhood..they were the best summer snack. when i saw them
here i had to have some..got them in april of 2014 and they grew to plus 5foot
the first year from about 2foot on arrival..i am impressed..i do have them
staked for support...thanks gurney..they looking good..db

I planted this years ago when Gurney's had a special. These and my mulberries
have more fruit than anything else I've ever grown. I have to fight the birds
for them!

PRODUCTIVE AND DELICIOUS!

I'm a terrible newbie gardener. I planted, then transplanted two of these plum
trees in my red clay yard during a drought. Not only did they survive, but they
throve. By the second year, the fruit filled our freezer! Having only had
grocery store plums before, I found the taste amazing.

suckers are allowed to mature but they are not considered invasive. If the area
around the tree is mowed, it shouldn't become an issue. There are conservation
efforts to preserve native plum trees because they can be overrun by truly
