JOHN WEEKS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN BUTTON Republican 1924Celluloid pinback button
with ribbon that reads "FOR PRESIDENT JOHN W. WEEKS" in gold print on a blue
silk. Button reads "THE ARMY AND NAVY FOREVER / THREE CHEERS FOR THE RED, WHITE
AND BLUE." Button is 2-1/8 inch in diameter; overall height with ribbon is 6-3/4
inches. Back has paper insert from The Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, N.J.
Overall condition is near excellent with no damage or According to Wikipedia:
"John Wingate Weeks (April 11, 1860 - July 12, 1926) was an American politician
in the Republican Party. He served as a United States Representative for
Massachusetts from 1905 to 1913, as a United States Senator from 1913 to 1919,
and as Secretary of War from 1921 to 1925." Weeks served as Secretary of War in
the post World War I period under Presidents Warren G. Harding (1921-1923) and
Calvin Coolidge (1923-1925). Apparently, this campaign button was made up to
express the Army and Navy sentiments for Weeks as an alternative candidate to
incumbent President Calvin Coolidge who easily won nomination for a second term.
Note the button section, while picturing Weeks, does not mention his name, and
has a military/patriotic theme instead. Very few of these were likely made, as
Weeks was not a strong candidate for nomination. So, we have a fairly rare 1924
Republican National Convention pinback badge. Started low and sold without
reserve so bidders may determine its true value! SHIPPING: Buyer pays shipping
