IV. THE MERIDIAN CONTINENT
the island of light

the largest city in meridia, the island of light is set on an island in the
middle of the meridian river, with the holy city at the heart of it and the
eastern and western banks stretching along the other side. large bridges connect
the island to the mainland on all four sides, patrolled night and day by city
guards to maintain the peace and ensure traffic moves swiftly into and out of
the city.

the northern duchy features the worst winters in meridia, marked by heavy snow
and ice, while the summers are relatively moderate. the main exports are the
ores and gems mined from the mountains. making sereland quite wealthy and
politically powerful. the other cities and towns cultivate the land and harvest
the forests for wood. herds of reindeer and caribou are as singular to this
landscape as the harsh winters, but the people of the north are proud of their
ability to weather the cold.

estana is a country of mountains and valleys, rocky coasts and sandy beaches,
forests and fields of flowers that seem to stretch all the way to the horizon.
its winters are cold with frequent snows and its summers are warm, though spring
in estana is known for being particularly beautiful. the northern coastline is
rocky and can be treacherous if you don’t know the safe passages and currents,
while the east coast is known for its white sand beaches, making it a popular
place to travel.

situated to the east of the holy river, silvain takes up the southern part of
the continent. the land is bisected by the silver river, with hilly, forested
lands in the north and southern lands that lay flat, with beaches and some small
cliffs on the coast. the west is elevated with cliffs near the opening of the
river, where there is a large bay, and the east opening of the river is a large
bog of wetlands. the weather is fairly stable through the year, with warm, yet
mild summers and cool, frosty winters.

these islands have a very warm, humid climate, almost year round, although
storms can frequently make temperatures drop rapidly. the largest and main
island of adonia sits in the middle and smaller islands fan out around it. the
islands have varying features: some are flat and beachy, while others have steep
cliff sides and small mountains, some are close enough to walk across sand
banks, others require bridges or boats to cross back and forth.

located on the western half of the continent, cethros has a largely dry summer
climate, with mild, wet winters, though the northwestern corner sees colder
winters than other areas in the region. the area thrives primarily on growing
crops — wheat, fruit, and olives, as well as flax — and raising livestock along
the flat lands that stretch down from the north and the sloping hills that rise
to the southern mountain range. however, coastal regions also rely on fishing
and tourism.

Formerly the capital of Cethros, the city of Breaton is breathtaking — nestled
neatly into a valley at the foothills of the Taberan Mountains, mountain peaks
rising majestically behind it and miles of hillside stretching before it to the
Fornetta Valley. Its focal point is the castle, the Endrastus Citadel, and it
has four districts – the Tillage, Ingress, Hearth, and Commerce districts – that
form a semi-circle around the Sovereign District.

situated the south of meridia – is a country identified by extremes of climate.
from its sharp jutting coastline cliffs constantly pounded by salty winds, to
the pristine mountaintops marked with horse-paths and decorated with colorful
flags and bells, to the yellow-green grasses of the windswept steppes, hardly a
day goes by without at least three different weather phenomenon.
