Every class I attend teaches me something new about who I am and where my strengths and weaknesses lie. Sensei Angelo has a huge impact on my overall development, as well as the members in the dojo. Every person (opponent) reflects where we need to improve: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Without the opponent, there is no Karaté. The opponent is not our enemy, but our teacher. Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a student. There is no one without the other. Karate is more than just about attacking people and winning or showing off fancy techniques. It is fighting and overcoming challenges within, so that we can be the best verious of ourselves. Those fears and challenges are reflected in the opponent. Do not try to conquer the opponent, but conquer oneself with the opponents help. This is my knowing of karaté and without Sensei Angelo's teaching and experience, I would have not come to this knowing. OSS! - JASON: 2ND DAN BLACK BELT Sensei Angelo is a technician who stresses the importance of respect and hard work. Students are dedicated to improvement and very welcoming to newcomers and visitors. Kirkland JKA will bring out the best in you. - ISABELLE: 1ST DAN BLACK BELT 32+ years. That's how long it took me to reach Black belt level. Started at 22 and then... life happened... My Senseis, my colleagues, our dojo Kun and my determination to feel powerful in my body and humble in my mind, these are just some of the reasons that led me to pursue training over those 32 years. I am blessed to be part of this family and look forward to life-long training. I hope everyone gets to discover this wonderful world. - TIMOTHY LAN: 4TH DAN BLACK BELT AND INSTRUCTOR I started karate when I was 6 years old. It has taught me many life lessons and values such as perseverance, humility, teamwork and respect. To this day, I am still practicing karate and learning new skills everyday. Karate has shaped me into the very person I am today. I also particularly relate to the guiding principals of Shotokan Karate that establish the main rules of the Dojo (Dojo-kun) which teaches about the search for the perfection of character, protecting the way of truth, fostering the spirit of effort, respecting others and displaying self-control by refraining from violent behavior. The unique character of karate, like most martial arts, is the fact that it is a lifelong practice and the values that it preaches are tools to be carried throughout our whole lives. To do karate signifies more than just physical exercise but also emotional and spiritual development while also being welcomed in the most compassionate and caring community one can ask to join. - SABRINA: 2ND DAN BLACK BELT Sensei Angelo has a way of making the classes fun and engaging, yet structured and disciplined. I highly recommend this dojo for its sense of community and belonging. Sensei Angelo has many years of experience and this is apparent in his teaching.
