DISCOVER YOUR INNER ARTIST!

We believe anyone can be an artist. Engaging in and facilitating art creation
for children does not require arts expertise to make the experience meaningful
and productive.

Q: WHO CAN BE AN ARTIST? A: ANYONE, AT ANY AGE.

IF YOU AGREE, WE'VE GOT A CURRICULUM FOR YOU!

HIGHLIGHT

TK-6 ELEMENTARY VISUAL ARTS

PROCESS > PRODUCT CLASSROOM CURRICULUM

A process-based art curriculum means educators facilitate student exploration of
various materials, discovery of new tools, and creation of truly original pieces
of art. This differs from product-based art, where students are shown a finished
piece and given step-by-step technical direction to replicate it. A
process-based approach also fosters a sense of student artists as culture
bearers and storytellers, while shying away from the idea that art requires
perfection or a specific product outcome. Our guiding philosophy is to focus on
process over product, which is why we chose process-based art as the basis of
the curriculum.

STUDENT ART KITS

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING BENEFITS

The visual arts curriculum requires students to reflect on their feelings and
emotions, understand and empathize with others by recognizing the perspectives
of diverse individuals and cultures, establish healthy and rewarding
communication, and consider the well-being of oneself and others through making
safe choices. This is a guiding principle! Therefore, we provide personal art
kits with materials for each student to take pride in their individual artistic
journey.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

FOR TK-6TH GRADE TEACHERS

Contact us for in-person and asynchronous professional development opportunities
in process-based, visual arts education. We believe every educator can apply
their skills to teach art, regardless of their own perceptions of their aptitude
or expertise in art. This is because we view teachers as the facilitators or
guides of the process and experience of making art, and not as the ranking
expert who must know every technique, genre, movement, or medium. Instead, we
honor the skills teachers have cultivated for the design of tailored learning
experiences for their learners.

I HAD A KID COME UP TO ME. HE GOES, ‘I MADE A MISTAKE.’ I LOOKED AT HIM AND I
SAID, ‘JUST GO WITH IT’. BEING A TRUE ARTIST IS ABOUT TRANSFORMING THOSE ERRORS
AND MAKING THEM SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL."

Trena, 5th Grade teacher

IT HELPED [STUDENTS] FORM A COMMUNITY. IT HELPED THEM OVERCOME THEIR ANXIETIES
OF WORKING WITH OTHER KIDS [AND] IMPROVED PERFORMANCE IN CLASS IN ACADEMICS
BECAUSE [STUDENTS] WERE...VERY RELAXED AND JUST CALM IN CLASS BECAUSE THEY WERE
ABLE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES THROUGH ART.”

Shazia, 5th Grade Teacher

I DID NOTICE THAT THE STUDENTS FELT CONFIDENT WHEN THEY HAD THE [SKETCH]BOOK,
[THEY] FELT MORE CONFIDENT ABOUT THEIR ARTWORK AND JUST THE IDEA THAT THEY DON’T
HAVE TO COMPARE THEMSELVES TO ANYONE ELSE WAS A REAL AREA OF GROWTH FOR THEM.”
