ASK TO JOIN RECOVER STUDIES

RECOVER is a research project that aims to learn about the long-term health
effects of COVID. To understand COVID, we need to include many people in RECOVER
studies. You can participate whether you have COVID now, had COVID before, or
never had COVID.

We need to learn how COVID affects all people, and that means adults, including
pregnant people, and children from every walk of life and across the country.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF RECOVER?

The goal is to learn how we can better prevent, test, and treat Long COVID in
the future. The main questions it will answer include:

 * Why do some people get Long COVID and others don’t?
 * What symptoms do people feel when they get Long COVID and how long do they
   feel sick?

WHAT IS LONG COVID?

Long COVID is when a person is sick many months after getting COVID. Their
symptoms can include trouble breathing, a cough, feeling weak and tired, and
problems with certain organs, such as their heart or kidneys.

WHO CAN JOIN THE RECOVER STUDY?

Up to 40,000 people who have and have not had COVID, from all ages, races,
ethnicities, and backgrounds. This helps us learn about Long COVID in everyone.
This includes:

 * Adults
 * Babies, children, and teens
 * Pregnant people

Certain sites are also enrolling the tissues and organs of deceased people, with
the permission of a loved one.

Joining is voluntary – this means you
decide if you want to take part or not.

WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS DO WHEN THEY JOIN?

Participants will answer sets of questions and visit their study site for tests
for up to 4 years. Participants may be asked to:

 * Give samples of urine (pee), spit, blood, or stool (poop)
 * Have simple check ups or exams
 * Have X-rays and other imaging tests

Participants can stop the study at any time, and decide to do some or all of the
tests.

This study will not give anyone a treatment or medicine for COVID.
