Pollard asserted that pursuing a ‘zero COVID’ policy of no infections was foolish and that “at some point, society has to open up.” The professor demanded to see stronger evidence before throwing his support behind a fourth round of vaccines, stating, “It depends if your goal is to stop all infections, but that is wrong. The goal is to prevent severe disease and protect health systems around the world.” Pollard said that booster shots should be focused on the vulnerable, adding, “We can’t vaccinate the planet every four to six months. It’s not sustainable or affordable.” Noting that Omicron has proven to be significantly less severe than previous variants, Pollard thinks, “The worst is absolutely behind us, we just need to get through the winter.” He also stated that he was “not a huge fan” of mandatory vaccination schemes, particularly in the UK, where such a program would be “inappropriate.” Pollard’s remarks may make grim reading for pharmaceutical giants like Pfizer, which thanks to its rollout of COVID vaccines saw its earnings surge 133% from a year earlier to $7.7 billion, with revenue up 134% at $24.1 billion. Published 15 hours ago on 4 January, 2022 Paul Joseph Watson Omer Messinger via Getty Images A poll in Germany commissioned by national newspaper Bild found that more than half of the population no longer trust official COVID-19 statistics. The survey underscores a concerning collapse of trust in the country’s disease control and prevention authority, the Robert Koch Institute. The poll found that 57 per cent of respondents don’t trust the data, while 32 per cent still think the government has credibility when it comes to releasing COVID figures. One of the reasons cited by Bild for the lack of trust is the fact that large numbers of people hospitalised for other reasons are being falsely counted as COVID patients. However, the lack of trust also extends in the opposite direction, with many Germans believing the government isn’t accurately reporting the true scale of Omicron infections. Germany’s health minister, Karl Lauterbach, acknowledged last week that the full scope of Omicron’s spread was “not being depicted accurately in the official figures because of false negatives by testing as well as delays in reporting new cases.” The Robert Koch Institute responded to the poll by blaming local health authorities for not filing health data on time. The survey also found that a majority of Germans were not satisfied with Berlin’s response to the pandemic. The recent scandal involving the Mayor of Hamburg will have done little to increase trust in authorities when it comes to official figures. Peter Tschentscher claimed the unvaccinated represented 95% of COVID cases. After a Senate investigation, the actual figure was revealed to be 14.3%.
