MIGRANTS SWARM NEW YORK CITY HALL DURING HEARING ABOUT 'INTEGRATING NEWCOMERS'
INTO NYC

NEW YORK CITY (TND) — Hundreds of migrants swarmed New York City Hall Tuesday,
waving flags and chanting at city officials, according to videos posted to
social media.

The migrants, mostly French-speaking natives of Africa and Haiti, reportedly
gathered to demand “assistance and the ability to work," according to a report
by journalist Savanah Hernandez. The scene, Hernandez said, is “what every
single park in New York is starting to look like."

The commotion coincided with an appearance by New York City Mayor Eric Adams at
a city council meeting to discuss the city’s upcoming “new arrivals strategy
team.” The group is “a diverse set of experts” who are charged with improving
the city’s response to a seemingly endless influx of migrants.

The New York Post reports many of the migrants who traveled to city hall Tuesday
were falsely told they would "get work visas or green cards" if they attended
the protest.

New York, which is a sanctuary city, has become a microcosm of the nation’s
migrant crisis. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., blasted city leaders earlier
this month for repeatedly failing to work with federal officials to remove
dangerous criminals.

> Rep. Malliotakis said.

The issue is creating a stir at the federal level, as the U.S. House on Tuesday
sent impeachment articles to the Senate against Homeland Security Secretary
Alejandro Mayorkas. Republicans contend Mayorkas played a key role in repeated
failures to turn back migrants entering the U.S. illegally through the southern
border.

Arrests for illegal border crossings fell in March, according to new data from
U.S. Border Patrol. The agency says it expects crossings to increase in
frequency as warmer weather builds in the U.S.

The New York City Police Department was not able to provide any information
about the protest when reached by The National Desk Tuesday.
