Michaela Vatcheva, Freelance / Special to The Chronicle A newcomer and progressive beat out a more moderate mayoral appointee to take the third and last seat on the San Francisco school board, an outcome that leaves the district with politically divided leadership. Parents and community members expressed hope the new board will work well together to put three years of controversy and conflict behind it.
