WHAT IS THE LITURGY OF THE HOURS?

“LORD, OPEN MY LIPS, AND MY MOUTH WILL PROCLAIM YOUR PRAISE.”

The Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office or Breviary, is the
daily prayer of the universal Church, with prayers dispersed at intervals
throughout the day to sanctify time and work.



Daily practice of this liturgical prayer, which is steeped in the richness of
Sacred Scripture, will give Christians authentic spiritual food, sanctify their
days, and unite them more closely with the Church throughout the world.
