WITH%20DREAGEN%20%F0%9F%94%A5%20Hi%20hello%20Dreagen!%20Thank%20you%20so%20much%20for%20being%20here%20me%20today%20to%20celebrate%20the%20release%20of%20the%20latest%20third%20instalment%20in%20the%20Born%20of%20Fire%20series%20aka%20Tomb%20of%20the%20Forsaken.%20Big%20congratulations%20on%20this%20release,%20which%20I%20cannot%20wait%20to%20dive%20into.%20I%20mean,%20look%20at%20the%20cover?!?!%20Anyways,%20without%20further%20ado,%20let%E2%80%99s%20get%20into%20the%20questions!!!%20First%20and%20foremost,%20can%20you%20tell%20us%20a%20little%20about%20yourself:%20hobbies,%20favourite%20foods,%20where%20you%20are,%20how%20are%20you?%20And%20a%20little%20bit%20about%20Born%20of%20Fire:%20Tomb%20of%20the%20Forsaken%20and%20the%20series%20as%20a%20whole?%20No%20spoilers%20of%20course!%20%F0%9F%94%A5%20Hello%20Ruby!%20Thank%20you%20so%20much%20for%20taking%20the%20time%20to%20talk%20to%20me.%20I%20live%20in%20Hopkinton,%20New%20Hampshire,%20USA,%20with%20my%20beautiful%20wife%20and%20daughter,%20two%20rambunctious%20dogs,%20and%20a%20no-nonsense%20cat.%20I%20grew%20up%20moving%20around%20the%20world,%20but%20a%20single%20constant%20was%20always%20my%20love%20of%20dinosaurs%20and%20monsters.%20As%20far%20back%20as%20I%20can%20remember,%20I%20was%20watching%20movies%20of%20lost%20worlds%20inhabited%20by%20living%20dinosaurs,%20people%20running%20from%20things%20with%20gnashing%20teeth%20and%20claws,%20or%20Godzilla%20stomping%20cities%20into%20the%20ground.%20When%20I%20got%20a%20little%20older,%20I%20discovered%20books%20and%20delved%20into%20these%20same%20kinds%20of%20stories%20on%20the%20page,%20which%20blossomed%20into%20my%20own%20love%20of%20writing.%20When%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20working%20on%20books,%20I%E2%80%99m%20usually%20curating%20my%20novel%20and%20film%20library%20at%20home,%20which%20consists%20mostly%20of%20what%20I%20grew%20up%20on.%20I%E2%80%99m%20a%20big%20proponent%20of%20physical%20media%20since%20there%E2%80%99s%20something%20special%20that%20only%20comes%20with%20being%20able%20to%20hold%20a%20story%20in%20your%20hands.%20The%20same%20can%20be%20said%20for%20music,%20which%20is%20why%20I%20love%20collecting%20vinyl%20records.%20It%20all%20keeps%20me%20pretty%20busy,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20important%20that%20I%20can%20share%20it%20all%20with%20my%20daughter.%20%C2%A0%20As%20far%20as%20food%20goes,%20I%E2%80%99m%20absolutely%20crazy%20about%20Japanese%20cuisine!%20Sushi%20and%20ramen%20especially.%20My%20wife%20and%20I%20always%20make%20a%20point%20of%20loading%20up%20on%20both%20when%20we%20visit%20Tokyo.%C2%A0%20%C2%A0Born%20of%20Fire%20is%20a%20series%20that%E2%80%99s%20essentially%20wish%20fulfillment%20for%20a%2010-year-old%20me,%20haha.%20A%20world%20where%20not%20only%20dinosaurs%20live%20but%20have%20created%20a%20civilization%20through%20harnessing%20a%20cosmic%20power%20that%20manifests%20itself%20as%20a%20%E2%80%9Cliving%20flame.%E2%80%9D%20Coexisting%20peacefully%20with%20a%20humanoid%20race%20called%20the%20SaVarians,%20who%20share%20in%20their%20might%20and%20scientific%20pursuit.%20Together,%20they%20must%20defend%20their%20world%20from%20an%20army%20of%20armored-clad%20dragons,%20who%20have%20set%20their%20sights%20on%20it%20after%20the%20fall%20of%20their%20own%20centuries%20ago.%C2%A0%20The%20central%20character,%20Rex,%20isn%E2%80%99t%20the%20usual%20sort%20of%20protagonist%20you%20follow%20in%20a%20classic%20hero%E2%80%99s%20journey.%20Rather,%20his%20tale%20is%20more%20indicative%20of%20a%20villain%E2%80%99s%20origin%20story.%20A%20dark%20character%20wrestling%20internally%20with%20demons%20that%20threaten%20to%20consume%20him%20in%20the%20rage%20of%20his%20own%20flame.%20However,%20through%20the%20bonds%20he%20forges%20with%20his%20friends,%20he%20learns%20that%20a%20hero%20can%20arise%20out%20of%20anyone%20and%20that%20it%E2%80%99s%20the%20choices%20we%20make%20in%20the%20face%20of%20adversity%20that%20truly%20define%20one.%20He,%20along%20with%20his%20friends,%20learn%20they%20are%20the%20Amaranthine:%20SaVarians%20who%20possess%20the%20flames%20of%20ancient%20dinosaurs%20and%20who%20can%20assume%20these%20saurian%20forms%20at%20will.%C2%A0%20%C2%A0In%20the%20latest%20book%20in%20the%20series,%20Tomb%20of%20the%20Forsaken,%20the%20Amaranthine%20journey%20to%20the%20wilds%20of%20the%20frozen%20north,%20where%20they%20must%20confront%20an%20eldritch%20horror%20awakened%20after%20centuries%20of%20slumber.%20What%20has%20your%20writing%20process%20looked%20like%20for%20this%20book?%20Did%20you%20find%20it%20easier%20or%20harder%20for%20the%20third%20in%20the%20series?%20What%20kind%20of%20world-building%20did%20you%20need%20to%20do?%20Are%20you%20a%20plotter%20or%20pantser?%20%F0%9F%94%A5%20Writing%20Tomb%20of%20the%20Forsaken%20was%20definitely%20the%20easiest%20of%20the%20three%20Born%20of%20Fire%20books%20to%20write.%20Primarily%20because%20it%E2%80%99s%20rooted%20firmly%20in%20horror.%20Inspired%20by%20classic%20creature%20feature%20movies%20like%20Ridley%20Scott%E2%80%99s%20Alien%20and%20John%20Carpenter%E2%80%99s%20The%20Thing,%20as%20well%20as%20eldritch%20horror%20literature%20in%20the%20vein%20of%20H.P.%20Lovecraft%E2%80%99s%20Cthulhu%20mythos.%20Topped%20off%20with%20a%20healthy%20dose%20of%20gothic%20aesthetic%20that%20speaks%20of%20my%20own%20ghoulish%20sensibility.%C2%A0%20For%20this%20story,%20I%20had%20to%20really%20look%20inward.%20Rex,%20by%20extension,%20is%20a%20version%20of%20myself%20whose%20own%20personal%20journey%20mirrors%20my%20own%20in%20many%20ways.%20Confronted%20by%20his%20past%20in%20this%20new%20story,%20he%20will%20forever%20be%20hunted%20by%20it%20if%20he%20does%20not%20turn%20and%20face%20it.%20I%20wrote%20the%20majority%20of%20this%20book%20while%20I%20was%20losing%20my%20mother%20to%20cancer,%20and%20like%20Rex,%20learned%20that%20I%20had%20to%20let%20go%20of%20the%20fear%20of%20uncertainty%20that%20comes%20from%20being%20a%20child%20and%20embrace%20the%20responsibilities%20of%20being%20an%20adult.%20That%20has%20been%20one%20of%20the%20greatest%20things%20about%20writing%20Rex%E2%80%99s%20story%20because%20in%20many%20respects,%20it%20feels%20like%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20writing%20my%20own.%C2%A0%20%C2%A0As%20for%20how%20I%20like%20to%20approach%20crafting%20the%20narrative,%20I%E2%80%99d%20say%20I%20straddle%20the%20line%20between%20plotting%20out%20the%20story%20while%20feeling%20it%20out%20as%20I%20go.%20I%20always%20start%20with%20a%20basic%20outline%20for%20where%20I%20need%20it%20to%20end%20up,%20specifically%20how%20it%20feeds%20into%20the%20future%20installment%20in%20the%20series.%20After%20that%20though,%20I%E2%80%99m%20basically%20along%20for%20the%20ride%20with%20the%20reader,%20discovering%20much%20of%20the%20emotional%20beats%20with%20the%20characters%20literally%20as%20I%20write%20them.%20In%20a%20strange%20way,%20I%20feel%20more%20like%20a%20journalist%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20writing%20Born%20of%20Fire,%20chronicling%20the%20exploits%20of%20these%20characters%20rather%20than%20just%20simply%20making%20them%20up.%20The%20results%20of%20which%20often%20see%20me%20walking%20away%20from%20a%20writing%20session%20surprised%20by%20revelations%20made%20and%20excited%20over%20the%20prospect%20of%20what%E2%80%99s%20to%20come.%20Do%20you%20have%20a%20favourite%20character%20to%20write?%20And%20maybe%20a%20least%20favourite?%20And%20why?%20%F0%9F%94%A5%20While%20Rex%20is%20by%20far%20the%20most%20personal%20character%20I%E2%80%99ve%20written,%20DiNiya,%20his%20love%20interest,%20and%20best%20friend,%20is%20easily%20my%20favorite%20to%20write.%20Like%20him,%20she%20has%20struggled%20with%20her%20own%20internal%20turmoil%20and%20deeply%20troubled%20past.%20However,%20unlike%20Rex,%20she%20has%20not%20only%20managed%20to%20keep%20from%20descending%20into%20despair%20but%20has%20emerged%20as%20a%20maternal%20figure%20to%20her%20brother%20in%20the%20wake%20of%20their%20mother%E2%80%99s%20death,%20shouldering%20the%20burdens%20of%20others%20so%20they%20might%20know%20some%20small%20semblance%20of%20peace.%20She%E2%80%99s%20the%20kind%20of%20person%20I%E2%80%99ve%20always%20aspired%20to%20be.%20In%20truth,%20Tomb%20of%20the%20Forsaken%20is%20really%20her%20story,%20the%20culmination%20of%20a%20journey%20that%20began%20with%20a%20tragedy%20that%20scarred%20her%20when%20she%20was%20a%20young%20girl.%20I%20feel%20both%20privileged%20and%20moved%20to%20have%20been%20able%20to%20share%20DiNiya%E2%80%99s%20story%20with%20the%20world.%C2%A0%20As%20for%20my%20least%20favorite%20to%20write,%20this%20might%20sound%20strange,%20but%20I%20think%20it%20might%20actually%20be%20Rex.%20While,%20yes,%20telling%20his%20story%20has%20been%20cathartic%20for%20me%20in%20many%20ways,%20it%20also%20means%20opening%20old%20wounds%20and%20examining%20parts%20of%20myself%20that%20remind%20me%20I%E2%80%99m%20far%20from%20perfect.%20Then%20again,%20that%E2%80%99s%20the%20essence%20of%20art%20regardless%20of%20the%20medium.%20You%E2%80%99ve%20written%20across%20a%20few%20genres%20now,%20namely%20horror%20and%20fantasy,%20how%20do%20you%20balance%20that?%20And%20are%20you%20interested%20in%20writing%20in%20any%20other%20genres?%20%F0%9F%94%A5%20Writing%20horror%20and%20fantasy%20has%20always%20felt%20natural%20to%20me.%20Both%20deal%20in%20the%20fantastic;%20the%20unbelievable.%20Where%20they%20differ%20though,%20is%20that%20fantasy%20is%20expansive%20and%20encourages%20the%20writer%20to%20indulge%20in%20every%20detail%20and%20curiosity.%20Horror,%20on%20the%20other%20hand,%20is%20all%20about%20minimalism%20at%20its%20core.%20Less%20is%20more,%20as%20the%20general%20rule%20of%20practice.%20To%20put%20it%20another%20way,%20fantasy%20is%20like%20a%20bodybuilder;%20big%20and%20awe-inspiring%20to%20look%20upon,%20while%20horror%20is%20like%20a%20sprinter:%20lean%20and%20mean.%20Combining%20the%20two,%20as%20I%20have%20in%20Tomb%20of%20the%20Forsaken,%20is%20really%20all%20about%20striking%20the%20perfect%20balance.%20Knowing%20how%20much%20to%20give%20the%20reader%20in%20terms%20of%20the%20answers%20they%20seek%20to%20satisfy%20their%20curiosity,%20while%20also%20knowing%20when%20to%20hold%20back%20to%20maintain%20the%20tension.%C2%A0%20Science%20fiction%20is%20another%20genre%20I%E2%80%99m%20very%20interested%20in%20writing%20for,%20though%20leaning%20more%20towards%20sci-fi/horror.%20I%20love%20tales%20of%20the%20latter%20set%20against%20a%20backdrop%20of%20the%20former.%20Some%20of%20the%20scariest%20films%20I%20grew%20up%20renting%20from%20the%20video%20store%20as%20a%20kid,%20and%20now%20proudly%20own,%20were%20based%20on%20science%20gone%20wrong,%20or%20people%20finding%20themselves%20in%20the%20depths%20of%20outer%20space%20where,%20as%20the%20tagline%20goes,%20%E2%80%98No%20one%20can%20hear%20you%20scream,%E2%80%99%20haha.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20had%20an%20idea%20for%20one%20such%20story%20in%20mind%20for%20a%20little%20while%20now%20and%20hope%20to%20start%20writing%20it%20in...nhttps://rubyraereads.co.za/2024/05/13/author-interview-with-dreagen/

https://api.whatsapp.com/send?text=*ONE%20OF%20US%20IS%20BACK%20BY%20KAREN%20M.%20MCMANUS%20//%20spoiler-free%20book%20review:%20i%E2%80%99m%20just%20so%20happy%20to%20back%20in%20this%20psycho%20murdery%20town%20ft.%20a%20side%20of%20addictive%20writing%20&%20the%20bestest%20romance*nDidn%E2%80%99t%20originally%20think%20I%20was%20going%20to%20do%20a%20review%20but%20you%E2%80%99re%20all%20in%20luck%20hehehe%20Let%E2%80%99s%20get%20right%20into%20it!%20Title:%20One%20of%20Us%20Is%20BackSeries:%20One%20of%20Us%20Is%20Lying%20book%20#3Author:%20Karen%20M.%20McManusPage%20count:%20360Date%20published:%2027%20July%202023Genre:%20YA%20mystery%20thriller%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20Synopsis:%20Ever%20since%20Simon%20died%20in%20detention,%20life%20hasn%E2%80%99t%20been%20easy%20for%20the%20Bayview%20Crew.%20First%20the%20Bayview%20Four%20had%20to%20prove%20they%20weren%E2%80%99t%20killers.%20Then%20a%20new%20generation%20had%20to%20outwit%20a%20vengeful%20copycat.%20Now,%20it%E2%80%99s%20beginning%20again.%20At%20first%20the%20mysterious%20billboard%20seems%20like%20a%20bad%20joke:%20Time%20for%20a%20new%20game,%20Bayview.%20But%20when%20a%20member%20of%20the%20crew%20disappears,%20it%E2%80%99s%20clear%20this%20%E2%80%98game%E2%80%99%20just%20got%20serious%20%E2%80%93%20and%20no%20one%20understands%20the%20rules.%20Everyone%E2%80%99s%20a%20target.%20And%20now%20that%20someone%20unexpected%20has%20returned%20to%20Bayview,%20things%20are%20starting%20to%20get%20deadly.%20The%20thing%20is,%20Simon%20was%20right%20about%20secrets%20%E2%80%93%20they%20all%20come%20out,%20eventually.%20And%20Bayview%20has%20a%20lot%20it%E2%80%99s%20still%20hiding.%20%C2%A0%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20Big%20thanks%20to%20Penguin%20Random%20House%20SA%20for%20the%20review%20copy!%20All%20thoughts%20and%20opinions%20are%20my%20own.%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20STAR%20RATING:%20(4%20out%20of%205%20stars)%20Almost%20had%20this%20finished%20on%20the%20last%20day%20of%202023%20but%20I%20was%20in%20no%20mood%20to%20push%20it%20too%20hard,%20so%20lol%20she%20truly%20is%20the%20FIRST%20read%20of%20the%20year!!!%20Just%20to%20toot%20my%20own%20horn%20here,%20I%20do%20have%20a%20WHOLE%20show%20review%20you%20can%20read:%20Let%E2%80%99s%20get%20into%20the%20review!%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20Ahhhh%20I%20forgot%20how%20much%20I%20missed%20Bayview%20omg.%20I%20literally%20have%20the%20best%20time%20whenever%20I%20visit%20this%20messed-up%20town%20and%20no%20I%20am%20not%20a%20psycho%20for%20saying%20that.%20Or%20maybe%20I%20am,%20who%E2%80%99s%20to%20say?%20Over%20the%20years,%20Karen%20M%20McManus%20has%20become%20such%20a%20comfort%20for%20me.%20I%20know%20that%20whenever%20I%20pick%20up%20one%20of%20her%20books,%20I%E2%80%99ll%20be%20greeted%20with%20some%20great%20characters%20and%20a%20fast-paced%20mystery%20and%20I%20love%20it%20every%20time.%20She%E2%80%99s%20one%20of%20those%20writers%20who%20can%20effortlessly%20throw%20you%20into%20a%20setting%20and%20make%20you%20completely%20enamoured%20with%20the%20world%20around%20you%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20impressed%20each%20and%20every%20book.%20Unfortunately,%20this%20book%20was%20not%20everything%20I%20wanted%20it%20to%20be.%20I%20expected%20a%20bit%20more%20of%20a%20%E2%80%9Cfull%20circle%E2%80%9D%20mystery%20and%20I%20won%E2%80%99t%20give%20anything%20away,%20but%20the%20mystery%20in%20this%20finale%20didn%E2%80%99t%20quite%20do%20it%20for%20me%20as%20much%20as%20the%20One%20of%20Us%20Is%20Next%20plotline.%20However,%20I%20absolutely%20loved%20that%20we%20got%20a%20third%20book%20to%20this%20series%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20so%20sad%20it%E2%80%99s%20over,%20so%20being%20back%20in%20this%20world%20made%20up%20for%20the%20comparatively%20weak%20mystery%20plot.%20All-in-all,%20this%20was%20a%20really%20enjoyable%20read%20and%20the%20characters,%20specifically%20the%20group%20dynamics%20and%20OF%20COURSE,%20Nate%20and%20Bronwyn%20always%20put%20a%20smile%20on%20my%20face.%20I%20shall%20now%20go%20cry%20about%20the%20show%20being%20cancelled%20and%20now%20no%20more%20new%20books.%20Or%20I%E2%80%99ll%20get%20into%20Karen%E2%80%99s%20DMs%20and%20do%20some%20~negotiations~%20if%20you%20know%20what%20I%20mean%E2%80%A6%20*wink%20wink*%20I%E2%80%99m%20kidding.%20Mostly.%20%C2%A0%20%E2%80%9CWhat%20is%20Bayview%20best%20known%20for?%20Revenge.%E2%80%9D%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20%E2%80%9CI%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20marry%20you,%20Bronwyn%20Rojas.%20Just%20so%20you%20know.%E2%80%9D%20She%20puts%20her%20hands%20on%20either%20side%20of%20my%20face%20and%20pulls%20me%20close%20enough%20to%20kiss.%20But%20first,%20she%20says,%20%E2%80%9COh,%20I%20know.%E2%80%9D%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20%E2%80%9CIt%E2%80%99s%20unreal%20how%20fast%20the%20inner%20voice%20you%20thought%20was%20gone%20can%20jump%20back%20into%20your%20head%20to%20tell%20you%20how%20much%20you%20suck.%E2%80%9D%20%F0%9F%94%8D%20%E2%80%9CIt%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20matter%20how%20many%20times%20she%20smiles%20at%20me%20like%20that;%20I%20still%20forget%20how%20to%20breathe%20for%20at%20least%20a%20few%20seconds.%E2%80%9D%20HA
