AboutApproachTeamContact AboutApproachTeamContact SEEDING INNOVATION IN FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH. Luminary Impact Fund is a venture capital philanthropy working to improve the mental health of parents and children. Get In Touch WHY WE EXIST. We are in a family mental health crisis. Parents and children are struggling to get the help they need, especially in under-resourced communities. Poor mental health in parents negatively affects their children and the reverse is also true. With access to quality care, parents and children can thrive. We exist to find and advance solutions in family mental health. 20% of mothers in the US–1 in 2 moms on Medicaid–have a maternal mental health disorder, and 85% do not receive care. MMHLA Fact Sheet 1 in 5 youth in the US have a mental health disorder, and 50% never receive treatment. cdc.gov/mentalhealth 1/5th of parents have quit their job or plan to in order to deal with [kids’] behavioral or mental health issues. prnewswire.com/news-releases Depressed teens are 5x more likely than non-depressed teens to have a depressed parent. gse.harvard.edu/ideas OUR APPROACH. As a 501c3, we raise funds from donors who share our commitment and vision to elevate family mental health. Returns from our portfolio will be reinvested to support emerging opportunities and to sustain our fund. SOURCE. We source organizations focused on family mental health–serving children and/or their caregivers. We look for dedicated, promising entrepreneurs, often with lived experience, who have secured early market traction and developed viable strategies for meaningful impact and nationwide scale. INVEST. We invest in early-stage organizations (for-profit and nonprofit) and provide 1:1 coaching as well as access to networks of best-in-class talent and resources. CATALYZE. We catalyze advancement in the family mental health field by convening visionary, interdisciplinary leaders to put family mental health on the map and tackle systemic barriers to progress.
