WWTI – InformNNY.com SECURITY CAMERAS AT NYS PARKS PROPOSED IN EXECUTIVE BUDGET Jamie DeLine 2 hours ago ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)–In Governor Hochul’s Executive Budget, she wants to set aside money to install security cameras at state parks— something Senator Jim Tedisco and Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara have been calling for. Their bipartisan legislation comes after a child was abducted from Moreau State Park back in October. “If we are going to track down violent crime anywhere in New York State–probably in our parks where people are recreating, that is where they should be safe,” said Tedisco. “Now some people talk about privacy. It doesn’t effect inside picnicking, swimming, recreational activities. Only entering the park and leaving the park.” Both lawmakers say if cameras had been in place, it would have made it easier for law enforcement to find the child faster. “We want to make sure we are doing everything we can to provide law enforcement with the tools and the information they need to respond and solve these crimes as quick as possible,” explained Santabarbara. The cameras could become a reality this year, according to the lawmakers. In addition, the governor wants to spend money on pools and other swimming sites in New York–some of them being at state parks. The final state budget is due on April 1st.
