This blueberry pineapple smoothie is full of healthy benefits and is ready in
just 5 minutes! It packs an antioxidant punch from the frozen wild blueberries
and spinach, has natural sweetness from the bananas and pineapple, and added
protein from some plain Greek yogurt. This delicious smoothie is super easy,
satisfying, and kid-friendly too!

Summer is the perfect time for smoothies, but they’re really a great, easy
breakfast or snack any time of year. When I was a kid, my mom would make
strawberry-banana “milkshake desserts” on weekday mornings as a fast breakfast
that was still healthy and filling.

I really thought they were sugary treats, I had no idea that they were just
strawberries, bananas, plain yogurt, and ice – no milk or sugar actually
involved!

But thanks to the creaminess from the yogurt and sweetness from the banana, it
tasted just like a milkshake. This pineapple blueberry smoothie recipe takes
inspiration from my mom’s healthy tricks from my childhood.

The best part? It’s ready in just 5 minutes, it’s super filling and satisfying,
it’s kid-friendly (and a great way to sneak in a bunch of fruits and veggies
into a picky eater’s diet!), can be taken on the go, and can easily be made
vegan too!

🥘 INGREDIENTS

This easy blueberry smoothie calls for just a few simple ingredients you can
find at any grocery store!

 * Frozen Wild Blueberries: While you can use fresh blueberries, I find that
frozen blueberries gives this pineapple blueberry banana smoothie a smoother,
creamier consistency. I choose wild blueberries because they have more of an
   antioxidant punch than regular blueberries!
 * Frozen Banana: For sweetness and creaminess. Again, you can use fresh, but
frozen is better for a creamy smoothie!
 * Fresh Pineapple: I buy pre-cut pineapple chunks to save on prep time!
 * Plain Greek Yogurt: I used nonfat Greek yogurt, but you can use lowfat or
even full fat for more creaminess. If you want a sweeter, more dessert like
feel, use vanilla Greek yogurt (but keep in mind it will have added sugar).
 * Baby Spinach: To sneak in those greens! You can also use baby kale (regular
kale will have a stronger flavor and more fibrous feel).
 * Milk: I used lowfat milk, but any type of milk will work. Unsweetened almond
milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or any plant based milk will all taste great in
   this blueberry pineapple spinach smoothie.

📖 VARIATIONS

frozen strawberries, or add in 1/2 cup frozen strawberries along with the
   banana!
 * Mango Pineapple Blueberry Smoothie: Replace the banana with 1/4 cup frozen
mango, or add in the mango with the rest of the ingredients.
 * Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie Without Yogurt: If you’re not a fan of Greek
yogurt, you can replace it with your favorite protein powder, or omit it
   altogether.
 * Vegan Blueberry Smoothie: To make this pineapple banana blueberry smoothie
dairy free and vegan, use a plant based milk instead of the regular milk, and
an unsweetened coconut yogurt (or your favorite plant based yogurt) instead
   of the Greek yogurt.

into this easy drink, or you can also try adding in hemp seeds, a tablespoon

❓RECIPE FAQS

Do blueberries and pineapple taste good together?

Yes! Blueberries have a delicate and slightly tart+sweet fruity flavor – they do
not have an overpowering taste. Pineapple has a natural sweetness to them and
when blended, they become quite creamy. Blueberries and pineapples are a great
natural food pairing.

Does pineapple detox your body?

Yes, pineapple does have detoxification benefits! Pineapples contain flavonoids
and polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that helps to remove toxins from your
bloodstream (which your liver then processes out of your body).

What are the Health Benefits of Blueberries?

Blueberries really are a super food, they’re low-glycemic (compared to other
fruits) and are high in nutrients. Here are some of the other health benefits of
blueberries:
* Full of antioxidants
* Anti-inflammatory
* Can protect against high blood pressure
* Can help to prevent heart disease
* Can help reduce muscle damage after exercise
* Packed with Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, manganese, potassium, copper, and
folate

Are Blueberry Smoothies Healthy?

Typically, yes they are! But it depends on what you add into the smoothie along
with the blueberries. If you add in a bunch of high sugar ingredients like
frozen yogurt or ice cream, then you will end up with a smoothie that’s more
like a dessert than a healthy breakfast. But if you choose whole food, nutrient
dense ingredients, then yes, your smoothie will be super healthy!

This blueberry banana spinach smoothie has so many health benefits because in
addition to the blueberries, this particular smoothie also has protein-rich
Greek yogurt, potassium-packed bananas and nutrient-rich baby spinach (full of
iron, magnesium and antioxidants) to round out the recipe! It’s low in calories,
low in fat, high in protein and high in fiber. You can enjoy this smoothie as a
light breakfast, healthy dessert or post-workout snack for under 200 calories!

💭 EXPERT TIPS

 * You can use fresh or frozen fruit – frozen is great for convenience.
 * Use a high powered blender for this smoothie – I absolutely love my Vitamix
Blender, but I have heard that this blender by CleanBlend is comparable to
the Vitamix and is more affordable!
 * Drink this pineapple blueberry spinach smoothie as soon as you make it. It
will keep in the fridge for up to 12 hours, but you’ll have to re-stir it
since the ingredients will separate in the fridge over time.
 * To make this smoothie vegan, use a vegan protein powder instead of Greek
Yogurt, and swap out the milk for coconut or almond milk (make sure to get
the unsweetened variety with no carrageenan).

Lovely smoothie! We have lots of blueberries frozen from this year’s
foraging, but what I enjoyed most of all was the pineapple in this
smoothie. Really added some beautiful tang!

Hi Mike! I haven’t tried it with avocado instead of banana, but
theoretically I think it should work. The only thing is – it will be a
lot less sweet with that substitution. If you try it, let me know how it
       turns out!

I had fresh blueberries and a pear instead of banana. Left out the water
and skim milk and put in a cup of dark chocolate almond milk. Delicious! I
love the tang from the Greek yogurt. Plus I started my day with my fruit
     and veggie servings! Thanks!

If you like the flavor of blueberries you can totally add more than 1
cup, but you probably won’t taste the banana much if you go higher than 1
       cup for the recipe!
