THIS WEEK AT THE RSPB

 * WAS THAT A PIGEON COO OR CUCKOO?

   In the hullabaloo of spring birdsong, it’s surprisingly easy to mix up that
   distant cuck-coo with the cooing call of the woodpigeon or the collared dove.
   This is your guide on how to tell them apart, as well as one of our other
   rare summer visitors, the turtle dove.

 * NEED A HAND WITH BIRD ID?

   If you've spotted a bird while out and about, but aren't quite sure what it
   is - why not use our handy bird ID tool? The RSPB bird identifier lists 406
   species of birds found in the UK, including some rare overseas visitors.

 * NATURE'S CALENDAR: MAY

   And just like that, it’s May. It’s been a glorious start to spring, with many
   plants flowering earlier than previous years. But who can we expect to spot
   in our gardens and countryside this month?

THE LATEST MIGRATION NEWS

 * NEW ONLINE EVENTS: ASK THE EXPERTS

   Join experts from across the RSPB for a series of four interactive online
   events about spring migratory birds. You’ll discover fascinating facts, find
   out how you can help birds at home and abroad, and get the chance to ask your
   burning questions too.

 * HOW TO WELCOME SWIFTS

   Swifts have declined all across the UK, and are now on the Red list of Birds
   of Conservation Concern. You can help by providing ‘bed and breakfast’,
   giving them the homes and food they need.

 * BRAND NEW ROYAL MAIL BIRD STAMPS

   The Royal Mail celebrates the magnificence of migratory birds this spring
   with a new set of stamps featuring some of our most iconic summer visitors.
