SURVEYING COMPANIES...

are a critical component to projects involving boundary, GPS (GNSS), topographic
surveys, aerial mapping, pipeline surveying and host of other areas. The
importance of both metes (measurements) and bounds (boundaries) runs in the
blood of all of Gateway's survey professionals.

We understand that it's imperative for our client's projects to be completed
with a high level of QUALITY, a COMMITMENT to an expedited time frame, and a
RELIABLE team. Our land survey company has been serving our customers for over
16 years.

FIELD TO FINISH

"HOW GATEWAY SAVES OUR CLIENT'S MONEY"

Gateway's land surveyors are always striving to increase the value we bring to
our customers. One way we do that is by utilizing field to finish. Field to
finish is a process that helps integrate surveyor data collection with data
processing; ultimately streamlining the process.

FAQS...

▸What Surveying Companies do?
Surveyors; sometimes referred to as geomatics engineers, make precise
measurements to determine and update property boundary lines to prepare sites
for construction and prevent legal disputes. Land Surveyors also provide data
relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth's surface for engineering,
mapping, GIS, and construction projects
▸Surveying with GPS?
Land surveying with GPS (Global Positioning System) utilizes a satellite system
and ground based equipment to accurately establish both horizontal and vertical
positions. Surveying Companies also verify the quality of the GPS data and make
any post processed adjustments based on a variety of options including OPUS.
▸Conventional Survey Equipment
Surveying and mapping involves the use of a multitude of equipment to provide
the precision needed for the project. Conventional survey equipment includes
items such as total stations, levels, tapes, line and pipe locators and other
tools.
▸What is a Datum?
A geodetic datum is an abstract coordinate system with a reference surface (such
as sea level) that serves to provide known locations to begin surveys and create
maps. In this way, datums act similar to starting points when you give someone
directions. For instance, when you want to tell someone how to get to your
house, you give them a starting point that they know, like a crossroads or a
building address.
▸How do Surveyors use Datums?
land surveyors use datums to create starting or reference points for floodplain
maps, property boundaries, construction surveys, levee design, or other work
requiring accurate coordinates that are consistent with one another.
▸What is a Survey Benchmark?
Benchmarks (BM) are relatively permanent objects; natural or artificial, having
a marked point whose elevation above or below a referenced datum is known or
assumed
▸Survey and Mapping with Drones?
Land surveying with drones assist in generating high-resolution orthomosaics and
detailed 3D models of areas where low-quality, outdated or even no data, are
available. Drones help surveyors generate higher quality maps with increased
efficiency; especially in environmentally or dangerous areas.
▸Surveying with LiDAR
Utilizing laser scanning (LiDAR) for survey and mapping can produce highly
detailed topographic data. This data can be used for many solutions. Our LiDAR
page has more details about Light Detection and Ranging
▸Where did Surveying Originate?
The oldest historical records show that surveying and mapping originated around
1400 BC in Eqypt. At the time land was divided into plots for farming and
taxation purposes after the Nile River had flooded the region. These early land
surveyors were called "rope-pullers," since their measurements were made with
ropes having markers at unit distances.
▸What is Geomatics?
Geomatics is a newer term that is applied to the profession of land surveying.
Surveyors are involved in many areas including; traditional boundary surveys,
topographic surveys, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), Geographic Information
Systems (GIS), GPS surveys; to name a few. Surveying and mapping has changed
dramatically over time and the term geomatics can represent the broader field
more accurately.
▸Surveying and GIS
Land surveying is complimentary to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The
surveyors data set is built on the measurements of location provided by a
conventional or GPS surveys. GIS data is uploaded and used for analysis in
surveying, planning, construction, and management. See Gateway's GIS page for
more details.
▸What is a Topographic Survey?
A topographic survey includes planimetric (natural and cultural) features as
well a topographic data (configuration of the Earth's surface). A topographic
survey can be delivered in many forms including digital elevation models,
topographic contours, plats, maps and other mediums specified by the end user.
