WHALES DESTROYING COLLATORS Cosmoon 2 hours ago·3 min read I decided to tell in these few lines what we, collators, are experiencing these days. There is no more sleep for fear, to be thrown off the active set. This has one word, whale. Before the launch of the moonbeam network, a small group of trusted people has started to be created; we started to know each other; we started to trust each other; we started also to test the first releases of the future moonbeam network (moonbase); we started what today, I can call a family. I am writing this article because I need to let our delegators know what is happening, and why from one day to another, you can find your collator, a collator who you trusted, out of the set. I first need to thank you, the major of collators and delegators who supported me, during these days in the waiting set. Point 1: Whales becoming collators Usually, whales are believers in the project, who first are community supporters, in this case, we, collators. Wrong in this case. Whales are creating their own collators, auto-delegating themselves with over 400–500–600k of glmr! They are pushing us, one by one, out of the active set; a community collator has over 300 nominations on average, they are letting 300+ delegators per collator without rewards! The difference with us is that if we exit, we tend to support each other, we are ready to round our delegation to let all be collators! A community collator has from 100 to 300 delegations. A whale collator has 2–10 delegations. Are we sure we hardly worked to let whales become the King of the blockchain? This is an appeal to those currently delegating to a whale, you delegate to a whale because you are sure they don’t fall out from the active set but, are you sure is this what you want? By voting a whale, you are destroying a good collator; a collator who followed the chain since his first heartbeat; a collator who stays awake all night, to bring you a wonderful delegation experience; a collator who does all to help you, and in case of any problem; there is his face answering all the questions; A collator, who daily contributes to the development and enhancement of the Moonbeam network. Do you think a whale doing this, cares for the ecosystem or cares about his wallet? If you want to help us debate them, STOP voting them, they are simple to be recognized, they are in the active set with just their vote. Instead, help us by voting the referendum to add more collator slots to bring inside the good, old, community collators. https://polkadot.js.org/apps/?rpc=wss%3A%2F%2Fwss.api.moonbeam.network#/democracy Point 2: Last-minute tricks If you tough the whales were a problem, here is another. I was the first to experience it, today it has become a fashion One day, I woke up with 20k less delegation to my collator; it was sad, it was unexpected. In chat, I was told how people can be really evil and how the community concept, is destroyed. A delegator has the chance to unbound funds and after the 7 days wait period, he needs to unlock the funds. However, they can keep the funds locked and continue to delegate. But where is the problem? After 7 days elapses, anyone can unlock and remove that delegation from an X collator, so the delegator isn’t aware of his funds being unlocked and returned into balance. I had a few delegators having the 7 days period elapsed (so they could unlock instantly when they needed funds), this was discovered by competitors and they unlocked their funds to make me out of the set. I lost 20k of delegation in one night. Let’s contribute all to create a healthy ecosystem. Don’t delegate to whales, delegate to real-collators.
