OBITUARY

Will Michael Ensley, beloved son and brother, was born May 18, 2006 in Shawnee,
KS. Will was always smart, funny, focused, and determined. In his seventeen
years with us he grew to be a caring, thoughtful, and loving young man.

Will represented the Shawnee Mission Northwest High School swim team at the
Kansas state meet all three years of his high school career with great success.
He was interested in cyber security work in the future and swimming in college.
With his leadership skills, work ethic, enthusiasm, and unbridled love for the
sport we thought he would have made a great swim coach once his competition days
were over.

He worked hard in the classroom, and he trained hard in the pool. And, when
schoolwork, training time, and swim meets permitted, he worked as a lifeguard at
the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center.

Will’s time with us was tragically cut short on the morning of Wednesday, July
26, 2023. In passing he has helped save the lives of two others with his donated
kidneys, and he may yet save or improve lives further through the donation of
his heart valves, corneas, bone, skin, and vessels.

He is survived by his parents Sharon and Randall Ensley, brother Jack Ensley,
grandmother Pauline Ensley, grandfather Patrick McKenna who passed later that
same day, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his
grandmother Jean McKenna, his grandfather Gordon Ensley, and his grandfather
Michael Aczinowicz.

Will loved the Northwest swim program, and he very quickly felt like he had a
home with the Empire KC Swim Club. In hopes that his legacy will live on and he
can continue to help others, we plan to set up a Will Michael Ensley Memorial
Scholarship Fund to aid Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and Empire KC
swimmers.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Westside Family Church in
Lenexa, KS on Friday, August 4th at 1 p.m. To view the service live CLICK HERE.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Will M. Ensley Memorial
Scholarship Fund being collected either at Community America Credit Union
(Ensley Account, Routing: 301081508 Account: 3803382972) or via Venmo:
@Sharon-Ensley.

Although I had only met and talked to him once, Will Ensley seemed like such a
great, sweet person. I had swam with him the weekend of District Championships.
He was the first person to introduce me to the Kansas side of Empire. He was the
first person that made me feel like it was one big team and not divided into two
groups. Will was a very determined swimmer and always was pushing himself.
Although I didn’t know him, I will dearly miss him and being apart of his relay.

While I did not have the pleasure of personally meeting Will, I feel like I've
known him well through the many stories that Randall has shared about his boys
over the years. We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss that the Ensley
family must endure. May the loving memories that you have of Will provide you
peace and his legacy live on for the years to come through the William M. Ensley
Scholarship Fund you have established. Our prayers and deepest sympathy go out
to the entire Ensley family.

Everyone at Ray Marsh Elementary knows of Will and Jack Ensley and their
wonderful parents. I was fortunate to have Jack as my student, and my heart is
heavy to think of him navigating life without his younger brother, Will. Hold on
to and treasure all of your memories and shared experiences, Jack, and let all
of the moments you spent together as brothers and friends sustain you through
your grief. Your bond as brothers can never be broken.

My recollections of Will include his sweet, sweet smile and a boy on the move.
His smile was so contagious! Even at a young age, Will was bringing happiness to
others just by being himself. Although his life was cut short and all the
potential his future held for him will remain potential, he made such an impact
in his 17 years on earth. From being a leader academically and socially to his
leadership role on swim team to his heroic decision to make others’ lives better
through organ donation, Will made everyone better. What a gift he has been to
the world!

Sharon and Randall, I know how much you love and adore your boys. Sharon, you
were a constant supportive presence at Ray Marsh for both of your sons and
countless other children and teachers as well. Your sons know how much they are
loved. That was evident; that is special.

My hope and prayer for you all during this time of unthinkable loss is that you
may know what a huge impact your family has made on your community by simply
being such wonderful people, such an amazing family. May you find God’s peace
and take comfort in knowing Will’s grandfather is warmly embracing him in
heaven. May it help you heal to know how much you are all respected and loved. I
wish you peace.
