THE VIKING VOICE FOR FAMILIES

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12TH

THE VIKING VOICE FOR FAMILIES

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12TH

WEEK 3

Good evening, Viking Families,

I hope you have enjoyed a relaxing weekend after a great 2nd week of school!

On this day, 21 years after the horrific events on September 11, 2001, I ask us
all to pause for a moment of silence for the many men, women, and children who
lost their lives that day. I also ask us to think of their families and the
loved ones they left behind.

Reflecting on the tragic events of 9/11 brings back many emotions and memories
for us all. Like me, I bet most of you can still remember where you were and
what you were doing when you first heard about what was happening that day.

I don't think we will ever forget the vivid details from that day, as many of us
witnessed the events continue to unfold live on national television.

After 9/11, our country came together and a sense of unity prevailed throughout
our nation. People of all ages, races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds
leaned on one another.

Now, twenty-one years later, we must not only remember those we lost, but we
should also come together and honor their memories through our actions as we
support one another.

Former President Barack Obama, said, "Even the smallest act of service, the
simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that
spirit of unity that followed 9/11."

I challenge each of us this week to go out of our way to do a small act of
service or a simple act of kindness for someone in our school or community.

To all of the former and active service men and women, from our military
branches, policemen, firemen, EMTs, 911 call center operators, and everyone
behind the scenes that work together to keep us safe - THANK YOU!!!

May our acts of service and kindness honor those we lost and those that continue
this incredible and heroic work each day.

REMINDERS

 * Please fill out the forms from Open House & send them in!
 * Don't forget the online form too. You can find it here!

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL

 * Our instructional school day is from 7:25 AM - 2:10 PM.
 * We begin opening car doors at 7:05 AM.
 * Core instruction does not begin and we do not not count tardies until the car
line is finished each day. A closed gate at the car line signals the start of
   tardies for the day.
 * If the gate at the car line is closed, then you will need to park and walk
your child to the building to sign them in since they are tardy.

OneCards:

 * Please ensure your child has their OneCard on when they board the bus or exit
your car each day! This should be part of their daily routine.
 * Kindergarten and new students will have their photos taken soon to have cards
   made.

Pre-K & Ms. Newman's Parents:

 * Pre-K & Ms. Newman's parents will drive around the car line, park, and walk
their child up the sidewalk (not through the bus lot) each day. Pre-K parents
are required by by law to sign their child in.
 * Please allow them to pass safely around the car line.

Morning Car Riders:

 * Please be unbuckled and have all belongings in your hands - ready to exit the
car before you stop at an adult.
 * Cars should pull up very close to the vehicle in front of them to keep the
   car line tight.
 * You do not need space to pull around vehicles, because if a vehicle is taking
too long to unload, a staff member will ask them to pull up to the mailbox so
   they can take their time.
 * It is critical that we keep the flow of the line going!

Afternoon Car Riders:

 * Our goal is to begin putting students in cars for dismissal by 2:12 PM.
 * Please do not wave your child over to your car, as this is unsafe.
 * Be sure to have your car tag hanging on your rearview mirror to expedite
   dismissal!

Early Dismissal:

 * We do not allow children to be picked up after 1:40 PM.
 * If you need to change your child's transportation for the day or plan to pick
them up early, please communicate with your child's teacher in writing by
   12:30 PM.
