WORK.LIVE.PLAY: THE 411

A hotbed of entertainment, the ATL is home to five professional sports teams and
a growing media and entertainment scene.

If you're a traveler, Atlanta's airport is one of the largest and most connected
in the world.

STARTUP SCENE HEADLINES

A growing startup community  is emerging alongside a strong Fortune 500
contingent and newcomers to the city like Airbnb, which recently announced the
city would be home to its East Coast HQ. Local startup, Calendly, led by Tope
Awotona, recently joined the unicorn club,  raising $350M at a valuation north
of $3B.  All of these businesses benefit from the region's deep and diverse
talent pool, with local universities like Georgia Tech, Emory, and HBCUs
Morehouse and Spelman College producing thousands of annual graduates.

The community is also home to many leaders who are helping to foster more
diversity, equity and inclusion in the tech ecosystem: Jewel Burks Solomon
(Google for Startups, Collab Capital), Rodney Sampson (OHUB, 100 Black Angels &
Allies Fund), Joey Womack (Goodie Nation), Ryan Wilson (The Gathering Spot),
Paul Judge (Softbank Opportunity Fund, Panoramic Ventures), Arian Simone
(Fearless Fund)  and many more.

state parks to hike, and swimming holes to discover just outside the city.

The city is known as one of the live music capitals of the world. SXSW  and

plenty more concerts on the calendar across the many venues in Austin.

Many major tech companies have offices in Austin, including Facebook and Google.

in one of the most successful public offerings of 2020.  The city’s tech scene
has also been in the headlines recently for attracting some major Silicon Valley
companies - such as Tesla and Oracle - to relocate to Texas.

Most startup roads in Austin lead to Josh Baer’s Capital Factory, which has been
the most active investor in Texas since 2010 according to Pitchbook.  That is
how Rise of the Rest met Austin-based portfolio company ZenBusiness, which
recently closed a $50M+ Series B round.

MIAMI, FL

Atlanta, GA

WORK.LIVE.PLAY: THE 411

Few cities have garnered the attention that Miami has over the past year. Many
people from the tech and finance industries have relocated to the region for the
warm weather, low taxes, and a welcoming community. This is the culmination of
years of work building the local innovation community, and now is the time to
get in and help build the future!

Miami is the gateway to Latin America, with many large enterprises and new
startups setting up shop there to access the LATAM market. eMerge Americas is
the city's premier tech event connecting North, Central, and South America.

(6), Target (39), Best Buy (74), 3M (95), and CHS (95). All of these companies,
like businesses everywhere, are looking for technology-focused employees to help

Earlier this year, Rise of the Rest featured The Coven in our annual Ecosystem
Playbook, which focused on support for startups during COVID-19. The Coven is a
coworking space for women, non-binary, and trans people with locations in
Minneapolis and St. Paul. The community has gone virtual to continue supporting
diverse entrepreneurs, and launched donation centers for the community in the
wake of George Floyd's tragic murder  in 2020.

The land of 10,000 lakes means one thing: spending tons of time outdoors.
Minnesota boasts 5 national parks and 7 state parks: plenty of space to explore
when the weather is warm enough. Minneapolis is also known for its great food
scene, which means you'll have plenty of fuel for those hikes, bike rides, and
other activities.

Minneapolis-based BrightHealth, which raised over $1B from 2017-19 from
investors like Bessemer Venture Partners and NEA.

The local community received one of its biggest wins to-date last year, when
hometown hero Jamf, a software company that helps other firms manage their Apple

out of SAP and went public separately in early 2021.

Two Rise of the Rest-backed startups in the region have had breakout success
