Come with us through some of the most beautiful and historic parts of Cuba

"E-BIKES ARE AVAILABLE ON ALL OUR RIDES"

CAYO Y SEIS CIUDADES

(NOV 2ND. TO 13TH. 2024)

12 DAYS DURATION.

Cuba, with its rich culture, natural beauty, friendly people and quiet roads is
the Promised Land for cyclists. We at Bicycle Breeze have designed this new tour
to take you through a variety of scenic landscapes that include beautiful
beaches on the south and north coasts with overnight stays in-between in six of
Cuba’s most historically significant and interesting colonial cities: Havana,
the large and bustling capital whose well-preserved old city is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site; Cienfuegos, the lively, seaside “Pearl of the South” with its
French-inspired grand boulevard and colonnades; Trinidad, a living museum of
Cuba’s colonial past with its charming cobbled streets and another UNESCO World
Heritage Site; Santa Clara, the university city famously captured by Ché Guevara
to end the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and now the site of his impressive
mausoleum; Remedios, one of Cuba’s oldest and most charming colonial cities that
was deservedly declared to be a Cuban National Monument in 1979; and, Matanzas,
a city of rivers and bridges, the former center of the sugar trade now known
world-wide for its strong Afro-Cuban music and dance scene.

While Cuba’s rich colonial heritage is evident throughout the island, it is
central Cuba that best recalls the days of the pirates of the Spanish Main and
the boom and bust days of the sugar trade. Visually attractive, these urban
centers reflect the long and colorful history of this region where early
settlers were often forced to repeatedly move farther inland to escape pirate
attacks, where sugar, slavery and tobacco fortunes were made and lost, and where
many noteworthy people in Cuban history were born, including the current
president, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The tour will also allow for exploring the varied and often stunning Cuban
landscape with its many hidden gems.  It will follow the beach-lined shores of
the Bahía de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs), site of the attempted invasion of Cuba in
1961 by CIA-trained Cuban exiles all the way to Playa Girón, named after a
notorious French pirate from the early 1600s.  Going on, the tour will follow
the verdant Escambray Mountains through the picturesque Valle de los Ingenios
(Valley of the Sugar Mills), another UNESCO World Heritage Site made up of three
interconnected valleys watered by four rivers. A full two days will be spent at
Hanabanilla, a spectacular and enormous man-made lake surrounded by a
pine-studded forest high in the mountains not far from the archeological remains
of many Indigenous Taino villages.

The tour will also provide an opportunity to experience some of the more
off-beat aspects of Cuban culture such as the distinctive, but strikingly
different replicas of the Statue of Liberty found in Remedios and Matanzas that
are more expressive than the original that sits in New York harbour, the statue
of John Lennon in a park named after him in Havana that has become a pilgrimage
site for many rock music fans, and the restored 43.5 metre (143 feet) high
tower, the freestanding Torre de Manaca-Iznaga in the Valle de los Ingenios that
was allegedly built as a result of a silly wager between two brothers in the
1830s.

Cuba, renowned for its beautiful landscapes, glorious beaches, wonderful people,
and packed with great cycling routes is a paradise for those seeking a memorable
cycling and sightseeing holiday.

TRANS CUBA “CICLO TEMBA VERSION”

(NOV 23RD. TO DEC 8TH. 2024)

16 DAYS DURATION.

Ciclo Temba (Middle-Aged/Old Cyclist) is a great way to do a fully supported
end-to-end Cuba bike ride in the company of like-minded riders. This tour takes
its own sweet time and deliberately skips the longer stretches of the “Full
Monty” Trans Cuba Sportive event to allow time to savour the varied and often
spectacular Cuban countryside. With daily rides ranging from 40km to a maximum
of 100km, the availability of the support bus means that riders have the option
of riding all or part of the distance planned for any given day.
Given the length of the ride and the relatively good quality of the roads, a
road bike is required.  Skipping some of the longer stretches of the Trans Cuba
Sportive will leave time for a visit to Santiago, the lively and beautiful port
city known as the Cradle of the Cuban Revolution as well as to nearby Cobre, the
home of Cuba’s patron saint, La Virgen de la Caridad. This ride will allow for
dallying a little more in these and other Cuban cities and towns and to
experience Cuba in way that escapes most visitors. The youth cycling club in Las
Tunas, for example, will host us for a traditional Cuban Barbecue and we will be
able to meet ordinary Cubans in smaller towns all along the way to the far west
of this fascinating and largely unspoiled island.

See it all: Holguín, the city of leafy parks and plazas; Baracoa, where Columbus
first made landfall in 1492; Guantánamo and Caimanera, overlooking the United
States Guantánamo Bay Naval Base; Santiago, Cuba’s most Caribbean city; Bayamo,
where Cuba’s first war of  independence from Spain was launched; Las Tunas, a
city of artists and public sculptures; Camagüey, whose confusing city streets
were deliberately laid out to foil invading pirates; Trinidad, a living museum
of colonial architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site; Cienfuegos, a
stunning seaside city known as the “Pearl of the South”; Pinar Del Rio, a centre
of tobacco growing and cigar production; María La Gorda, a diver’s paradise in a
secluded location on a great beach near impressive mangroves; and, Havana,
Cuba’s imposing capital city and the home of the spectacular Malecon, a broad
seaside esplanade running for 8 kilometres from Old Havana past some of Havana’s
most iconic buildings and monuments.

This ride is a photographer’s dream.  It begins in the very east, ends in the
far west and, in between, provides an un-paralleled opportunity to ride through
an incredible variety of landscapes, micro-climates, protected biospheres and
large and small urban environments and to meet everyday Cubans where they live.

MOUNTAIN BIKE CHRISTMAS

(DEC 19TH. TO 28TH. 2024)

10 DAYS DURATION.

“Come to Cuba on cycling holiday over the Christmas holidays. A fully supported
tour with guide, mechanic and a following bus. It is well known that planning is
the key to success and the sooner we make plans, the better.
This is not about starting Christmas early. This is about planning to give
ourselves the best possible start to a Magical Christmas. So let’s start making
plans together, setting up a group of like-minded people looking for a relaxed
Mountain Bike Adventure in the West of Cuba.

This is Cuba in the raw. We will bring you to Western Cuba: Pinar del Rio
province, and the town of  Viñales. We have strong ties to the local youth
cycling club ( E.I.D.E.), which Bicycle Breeze and CanBiCuba have supported for
many years. This  tour is conducted mostly on dirt back roads and visits a
number of out of the way beaches.

This is not extreme MTB cycling, only moderate off road skills are required. Old
broken roads and some dirt trails are our preferred paths. Both Christmas Eve
and Christmas Day will be spent in Viñales.”

FAT MARY.

(JAN 25TH. TO FEB 8TH. 2025)

15 DAYS DURATION.

On this route you will cycle from Matanzas to Havana and beyond, all the way to
the western tip of Cuba at María la Gorda (the tour’s namesake).  In Havana, we
will pause for a few days to explore the treasures of the capital city,
including the old town and we will witness the traditional “closing of the city”
ceremony.  Beyond the north coastal route, we cycle through the western province
of Pinar del Río and the Valle Viñales.  The quiet back roads of western Cuba
will take you past lush green fields of tobacco, alongside turquoise beaches,
through the Viñales Valley surrounded by unique limestone formations and on to
islands, beaches and coral reefs.

This amazing tour includes visits to famous caves, interesting pueblos and
ancient coffee farms.  From all-inclusive beach resorts to mountain shacks, this
ride covers some gentle roads in the Sierra del Rosario biosphere and incredible
experiences in Valle Viñales.  The trade winds traditionally blow from the east
providing our tour with a gentle tailwind (part of the reason why this ride is
so popular).  After we reach María la Gorda, we return to Varadero in our
air-conditioned tour bus, where we spend a few days on the pristine white sand
beaches before flying home.

As a tour company, we have long supported Cuban youth cyclists.  We will visit a
club at the Havana velodrome and the Punta Brava cycling club on the west side
of Havana.  This will bring you one of many opportunities during the tour to
meet and learn from local Cubans and gain an appreciation for the resilience and
warmth of Cuba and its people.
