CHECKING WHO CALLED?

Scammers can fake our phone number

Looking up a phone number won't tell you who's really calling. Here's how to
handle calls and messages that make you suspicious.



How to handle a suspicious call

If we call you, ask us to use app ID to send a secure notification to your
Barclays app. You'll be able to log in to your app to see the name of the
colleague you're speaking to and you'll be able to confirm you've got the
notification, so we know it's you too.

If you get an unexpected call and you're not sure it's from us – end the call.
Scammers can keep your line open, so call us from a different phone if possible,
or try calling a friend first to check if your line is still open.

Never call back on the same number – even if you find a phone number online and
it looks like one of ours.

Instead, you can

 * Use the number on the back of your debit card, or call us from your app
 * Call 159 – it’s a safe number set up by Stop Scams UK and will connect you to
   us securely

If you have a corporate, wealth, or investment bank account, contact us
directly.

How to handle a suspicious message

Scammers can make it seem like a message comes from a genuine company, by
changing the number or sender name that you see on your device. This is called
spoofing.

Never click on a link in an unexpected message, and remember – we'll never send
you a link in an SMS message.

We've partnered with Get Safe Online to create a tool you can use to check a
website and see whether we know of any problems with it – it'll help you work
out whether a site is real or a fake before you visit. Always use the tool if
you're worried about a link you've been sent.



Remember, we’ll never contact you by phone, text or email to ask you to

 * Move money to another account
 * Help with an ‘internal investigation’
 * Give us access to your device to view or manage your accounts
 * Reveal your PIN, PINsentry or other membership details



We’ll also never

 * Disclose your personal details to prove it's us
 * Text you unexpectedly with a link to make a payment
