 * CHINA’S SURPRISE RATE CUT FUELS EXPECTATIONS OF MORE EASING
   
   China’s central bank surprised most economists and market participants by
   cutting a short-term policy interest rate, a sign that officials are
   increasingly concerned about faltering growth and are stepping up stimulus to
   boost the recovery. The People’s Bank of China lowered the seven-day reverse
   repurchase rate by 10 basis points to 1.9% on Tuesday, the first reduction in
   the rate since August 2022. That increases the likelihood the central bank
   will reduce its one-year loan rate on Thursday, with banks expected to lower
   their lending rates shortly after.

 * CHINA WEIGHS BROAD STIMULUS WITH PROPERTY SUPPORT, RATE CUTS
   
   China is considering a broad package of stimulus measures as pressure builds
   on Xi Jinping’s government to boost the world’s second-largest economy,
   according to people familiar with the matter. The stimulus proposals, drafted
   by multiple government agencies and partially reported by Bloomberg News
   earlier this month, include at least a dozen measures designed to support
   areas such as real estate and domestic demand, the people said, asking not to
   be named because the matter is private.

 * ELIZABETH HOLMES OBJECTS TO $250-A-MONTH VICTIM PAYMENTS AFTER PRISON
   
   Elizabeth Holmes has “limited financial resources” and should not have to pay
   $250 a month in restitution once she’s released from prison, lawyers for the
   Theranos Inc. founder told a judge. Federal prosecutors say there’s a
   clerical error in a court filing that doesn’t specify a schedule for Holmes
   to pay $452 million in restitution to victims of her massive fraud at the
   blood-testing startup.

 * ARM COURTS INTEL AS ANCHOR INVESTOR IN UPCOMING IPO
   
   Arm Ltd., the chip designer backed by SoftBank Group Corp., is in talks with
   potential strategic investors including Intel Corp. to anchor what will be
   one of the largest initial public offerings of the year, people familiar with
   the matter said. UK-based Arm has held talks with other companies about
   participating in the IPO, according to the people, who asked not to be
   identified discussing confidential information.

 * APPLE SHARES CLOSE AT RECORD IN LATEST SIGN OF BIG TECH’S DOMINANCE
   
   Apple Inc. shares ended at their first all-time high in more than a year on
   Monday, in the latest sign of how big tech has reclaimed its leadership
   mantle. Shares rose 1.6% to end the session at $183.79. This is Apple’s first
   closing high since January 2022, though it hit an intraday record after it
   unveiled its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset last week. The day’s gain
   brings Apple’s 2023 advance above 41%, compared with the 35% gain of the
   Nasdaq 100 Index.

 * US INFLATION SLOWS, GIVING ROOM FOR FED TO PAUSE RATE HIKES
   
   US inflation slowed in May, supporting the case for Federal Reserve officials
   to pause their run of interest-rate hikes this week. Both the consumer price
   index and the core CPI — which excludes food and energy — decelerated on an
   annual basis, highlighting inflation’s descent since peaking last year. At
   4%, year-over-year inflation is now at its lowest level since March 2021,
   according to data out Tuesday from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
