Those not involved have had time off with family and after the hectic programme in which the Hammers have been involved the 27 year old Spaniard believes the squad may now be rested and ready for the game at Burnley. Almost unbelievably the Hammers face 10 games between this weekend at the New Year and it seems certain that the midfielder will be required at various stages despite being down the pecking order in recent months. Powered By 10 West Ham Injury Crisis Share Next Stay He told www.whufc.com: “For me, personally, it has been a nice international break. A lot of the lads have had a chance to rest and recuperate a bit, and a few of the boys have been away representing their countries too. Those of us who stayed had the chance to have a couple of days off, which were really nice. “We’ve been playing loads of games in the early part of the season, with Europe too, and that’s a real positive because it shows how well we’ve been doing. But the chance to rest was good as well. “Now we’re in a run from now until maybe mid-January where we’re playing a lot of matches, so I think a little break was really important to making sure we are ready for that.” With no midweek fixture David Moyes and his coaching staff have been able to offer an in-depth assessment of this weekend’s opponents for the squad. Mixed in with a comprehensive training programme, Fornals believes the team are in the best shape possible to take on Vincent Kompany’s Clarets. He added: “It was important for us to really get training right this week. After the Burnley game, we will only have two or three training sessions between our matches. “It’s a compressed schedule so having the chance to take a bit more time before a match like Burnley gives us that time to make sure each of the concepts are clear in our head. Hopefully that can lead to a very good game from us.” Despite their position, Fornals is anticipating a tricky test from Burnley on Saturday. “I know they’ve not had the best start to the season and have struggled a bit for points, but you can see what they are trying to do. They treat the ball well and want to play good football. They have a consistent philosophy that has worked for them. “We need to go there, implement our style and play our way. We want to come back from Turf Moor with the three points. It’s not an easy place to go. Yes, there have been some changes up there but it’s still a very difficult place to go.” Tags: Burnley/West Ham, Fornals, Premier League Permalink Leave a comment NOTHING BUT VICTORY WILL DO YOU HAMMERS Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on November 24, 2023 in News, Whispers Nothing but victory will do you Hammers NOTHING BUT VICTORY WILL DO YOU HAMMERS David Moyes and the squad will know that the Turf Moor this weekend truly is a must win game. Nothing but victory will do you Hammers. The Clarets of course are becoming entirely desperate with just four points from the 12 games they have played thus far so it may not be that easy. The Irons pre-international break victory over Nottingham Forest could hardly have been more badly needed after four games without a Premier League and with no disrespect to Burnley the Hammers should win a game which is there for the taking. Ok, there is no Antonio or Bowen available but we really should have enough to beat a team which has lost 11 games including the last six on the trot whilst conceding 17 goals. These games aren’t ALWAYS straightforward because the Clarets squad will be becoming desperate for any kind of result. The Hammers can’t let it happen and also need to win big given we currently have a goal difference of minus one – the worst in the top 11 apart from Manchester United. However, if we are into the prediction game I believe we will probably win by two goals to nil with a team short of Jarrod who has nine goals in all competitions. Defeat or a draw in unthinkable! That would be considered a reasonable position given the recent pressure on David Moyes. However, it’s important to remember that the Hammers’ form has been poor, with only one win in the last 5 games. With matches against Palace and Spurs following quickly after, we’re about to find out whether our poor form was merely a blip. Moyes eying 7th place by claiming victory against Kompany’s Burnley side. While Moyes’s team should win comfortably against Burnley, a loss would set a negative tone for the upcoming fixtures. Vincent Kompany’s team has been awful this season and have only picked up four points. However, they do have some talented players who will surely come good eventually. That being said, I’d expect West Ham to win even without the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio. I only hope that we don’t sit back and invite Burnley onto us. Their defence has been terrible this season, so we must offer a regular and fast counter-attack. For that reason, I’d look to start Cornet or Mubama and possibly even both depending on injury and availability. The Hammers right back and two others were sent home after breaking the squad rules but one insider at the London Stadium made it clear he wasn’t unhappy about that saying: “It’s a relief – he is going to be ok for the weekend and no chance of an injury. Coufal has apologised profusely following the incident claiming it will live with him for the rest of his life and it also left team captain Tomas Soucek very unhappy and speaking out about the misbehaviour explaining that such stuff wasn’t on. It has changed nothing as far as Vladi’s future at the club is confirmed with our top source saying the club will be taking up the year’s option attached to his current deal. He said: “He is the number one right back at West Ham and we shall certainly be extending his contract before the end of the season – what happened in the international break changes nothing.” CLARETANDHUGH | Facebook Tags: Coufal, Premier League, West Ham Permalink 1 Comment A TALE OF WASTED TALENT Posted by Gonzo on November 23, 2023 in News, Whispers The wasted talent that is Thilo Kehrer The news that Thilo Kehrer is available for sale is just another example of wasted talent at West Ham. Perhaps Kehrer’s case is not as conspicuous as those of Vlasic, Anderson, and Haller, but it does point towards a wasteful transfer policy. It’s worth remembering that Kehrer joined the Hammers from Paris Saint-Germain as a full German international. In fact, the defender was the most frequently used player under then-boss Hansi Flick. It should also be noted that Kehrer began his West Ham career in excellent form when deployed as a central defender. It was only when the German was asked to cover for the injured Vladimir Coufal at right back that his performance levels dropped. When he was reintroduced to the team later in the season, Kehrer performed admirably again. Thilo Kehrer has become a wasted talent It’s a shame to see a player discarded without a fair chance to establish himself in his favoured position. Kehrer was someone who always embraced being a Hammer, as could be witnessed when he led the singing during our victory parade following last season’s cup win. The final nail in the coffin has been his deployment as a substitute defensive midfielder this season. I can’t say that I blame him for wanting to leave. Kehrer has gone from a key international player to an inconsequential bystander at West Ham. The German has fallen way down the pecking order at the club and hasn’t been seen in a Premier League game since the Manchester City defeat in September and having left Paris St Germain for regular first team football he may be ready to seek a transfer anyway. He needed a move to help his World Cup chances but things haven’t worked out to well for the 27 year old. He has a contract at the London Stadium until 2026 with a two year option attached meaning the club could demand a decent fee for the central defender. However, he is currently very much a fringe player despite his £10 million fee. The Hammers would want around £12 million for the defender. Since August Kehrer has featured in three Europa League games and Carabao Cup matches against Lincoln City and Arsenal, having been relegated behind Konstantinos Mavropanos in the defensive pecking order. Should the Hammers decide to entertain bids he will join the likes of Pablo Fornals, Ben Johnson, Aaron Cresswell, Conor Coventry and Maxwell Cornet who are among those the Hammers are ready to allow move as things stand right now. An official statement on the club site appeared to claim that he might join Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen as an absentee from the game declaring the three missed matches for their respective countries on international duty due to injury. Having returned to West Ham, the club will assess their respective injuries.” West Ham are hopeful for Mohammad Kudus We were also told earlier in the week that he had suffered similar problems over recent weeks and that long flights were aggravating as far as back injuries were concerned and wouldn’t help but this afternoon the club told Claret and Hugh seemed pretty confident the 24 was hopefully ok for the match. We were told: ” It was a very long journey of course and the boy was dead on his feet when landing but he will rally hopefully and be fit for the game at Turf Moor.” The Hammers will be looking for a decent win over the Clarets to improve a minus one goal difference and could move into eighth place above Brighton should they do so if the south coast team are beaten at Nottingham Forest. West Ham likely team: Areola, Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson; Alvarez, Soucek, Paqueta Ward-Prowse Kudus, Ings (but hopefully Mubama) (1) CLARETANDHUGH | Facebook Tags: Burnley/West Ham, Kudus, Premier League, West Ham Permalink Leave a comment BURNLEY V WEST HAM NEWS UPDATE Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on November 23, 2023 in News, Whispers BURNLEY V WEST HAM NEWS UPDATE Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio will be missing from the Hammers team that travels to Turf Moor with Mohammad Kudus expected to play in this Burnley v West Ham news update. Burnley v Hammers news update The three missed matches during the international break but Kudus returned to the Ghana team as a second half sub in their final match having suffered a recurrence of back problems which we understand has plagued him for several weeks. Having returned to West Ham, the Club will now assess his back again although we were told this morning that the club is more than hopeful he will be involved. Hjalmar Ekdal has been absent since late August for the home side due to a knee injury while forward players Jóhann Berg Gudmundsson and Nathan Redmond are also expected to be absent. Lyle Foster, meanwhile, has been ruled out of action after being granted leave by Burnley to prioritise his mental wellbeing. Saturday’s 3pm kick-off will NOT be broadcast live in the UK, but can be followed via the club’s live blog on whufc.com and their app and across our social media channels. They will also have highlights and exclusive reaction for you after the final whistle. CLARETANDHUGH | Facebook Tags: Burnley/West Ham, Premier League Permalink Leave a comment UEFA NEEDS TO GET ITS HANDS OFF THE PL Posted by David Griffith on November 23, 2023 in News, Whispers Blind Hammer looks at why UEFA and the Premier League should not sing from the same Hymn Sheet. Politically I am pro-European. I thought, and continue to think, that Brexit was a case of amazing economic self-harm. Yet, in contrast, in football terms I am a little Englander, increasingly convinced that the dead hand of UEFA represents a real danger to our national game and Uefa needs to get its hands off the PL. The facts are these. Across Europe football is in a slump with most clubs playing to lower crowds, in half empty stadiums, with little new interest from broadcasters. Clubs across Europe look on, with astonished envy, to the global penetration of the Premier League, with clubs filling out every increasing stadium capacities, and regular uplifts in broadcasting revenues. Uefa needs to get its hands off the PL Even middle or lower ranking PL clubs are economic powerhouses compared to most clubs in Europe. This is why it is the dream of most world footballers to play in the Premier League, why transfer fees in the premier league are greater than in the rest of Europe combined, and why the Premier League hovers up the cream of the world’s footballing talent. Unfortunately, clubs like Juventus did not only look on with astonished envy but actively plotted to abandon their moribund leagues and attempted to form a more glamourous European super league. This was a desperate and transparent attempt to try and re-direct the broadcasting lucre, currently funnelled into the PL, into their breakaway league by incorporating “EPL big fish like Man United. The result was the fiasco of the failed super league. This ridiculous idea was rightly shot down and those PL clubs who contemplated joining suddenly scuttled back into line rather than jeopardising their existing Golden Goose. Despite this fiasco, UEFA are still determined to mollify these disconcerted Euro clubs, even now, enviously resenting the riches of the PL. Their proposed solution is to trim down and diminish the importance of national leagues and increase the range of European competitive fixtures to create a virtual European super league by stealth. UEFA has increased champions league fixtures and even created, to West Ham’s benefit, the Europa Conference League. UEFA is muting though, reducing national leagues sizes even further to make room for all these new fixtures. So firstly, UEFA insisted that the Premier League had to be reduced from 22 to 20 clubs. Now it seems that UEFA wants to cut its leagues across Europe even more, reducing each national league to 18 clubs with only two relegation places. We need to completely reject this. Unlike moribund European leagues, England is bristling with clubs with Premiership potential. Not just clubs like Leicester and Leeds, but also many clubs in the Championship will have “big club” Premiership potential. West Bromwich Albion would create immediate interest with their return to the with twice season derbies against Wolves and Aston Villa. Even clubs who departed the PL some years ago, like Birmingham City, and Sheffield Wednesday have both the fan base and rivalry traditions to re-invigorate interest. The re-emergence of Yorkshire and Midland Derbies as used to be common in the old twenty-two team league would provide persistent derby excitement. This is why I would not only resist UEAFA pressure to cut national leagues, but also support a return to a twenty-two club Premiership, whilst retaining 3 up and 3 down. This would make the ridiculous jeopardy, which paralysed half the league last season, resulting in an epidemic of managerial sackings and providing no environment for clubs like West Ham to blood and introduce exciting new talent, far less likely. If any fixtures need to be trimmed to accommodate the growing European fixture burden, it should come in the early rounds of the league cup, with an extra bye added to the existing bye for clubs already competing in Europe. So, hands off our Premier League, UEFA,, we don’t need your envy and interference. The Hammers are continuing to talk with the player’s agents who are determined to tick as many boxes as possible on the teenager’s future writes Hughie Southon. With nearly six months left before the end of the season there is confidence among those close to the player that a deal can be done. Claret and Hugh has learned exclusively from sources close to Mubama that talks are continuing and that there is no hostility involved, simply a desire to get a deal done as soon as possible. We were told that with the Hammers in Europe for the third successive year it is a great club for a youngster to grow up within and the real hope is that an agreement can be arrived at very soon. Mubama himself is of course keen to get first team minutes on the clock which is another consideration from those close to him who have been talking to Claret and Hugh. We were told: “Regardless of what is being put out there, this is not all about money – he wants a chance to show himself at the highest level and hopefully that may come this weekend at Burnley with injuries affecting the team. Either way the talks are continuing and his hopes remain high to remain at the club he has been with since childhood.” (3) CLARETANDHUGH | Facebook Tags: Mubama, Premier League, West Ham Permalink POST NAVIGATION ← Older posts West Ham United News 24/7 RECENT POSTS * Hammers midfielder ready for Clarets * Nothing but victory will do you Hammers * Moyes eying 7th place with Burnley win * Bad Boy Vladimir Coufal welcomed back * A tale of wasted talent RECENT COMMENTS * Roman on A tale of wasted talent * Hugh5outhon1895 on Divin Mubama stand off shows football at its worst * danigood82 on Divin Mubama stand off shows football at its worst * johnham1 on Barca in surprise move for Hammers midfielder * hammerpete6 on Divin Mubama stand off shows football at its worst ARCHIVES Archives Select Month November 2023 October 2023 September 2023 August 2023 July 2023 June 2023 May 2023 April 2023 March 2023 February 2023 January 2023 December 2022 November 2022 October 2022 September 2022 August 2022 July 2022 June 2022 May 2022 April 2022 March 2022 February 2022 January 2022 December 2021 November 2021 October 2021 September 2021 August 2021 July 2021 June 2021 May 2021 April 2021 March 2021 February 2021 January 2021 December 2020 November 2020 October 2020 September 2020 August 2020 July 2020 June 2020 May 2020 April 2020 March 2020 February 2020 January 2020 December 2019 November 2019 October 2019 September 2019 August 2019 July 2019 June 2019 May 2019 April 2019 March 2019 February 2019 January 2019 December 2018 November 2018 October 2018 September 2018 August 2018 July 2018 June 2018 May 2018 April 2018 March 2018 February 2018 January 2018 December 2017 November 2017 October 2017 September 2017 August 2017 July 2017 June 2017 May 2017 April 2017 March 2017 February 2017 January 2017 December 2016 November 2016 October 2016 September 2016 August 2016 July 2016 June 2016 May 2016 April 2016 March 2016 February 2016 January 2016 December 2015 November 2015 October 2015 September 2015 August 2015 July 2015 June 2015 May 2015 April 2015 March 2015 February 2015 January 2015 December 2014 November 2014 October 2014 September 2014 August 2014 July 2014 June 2014 May 2014 April 2014 March 2014 February 2014 January 2014 December 2013 CATEGORIES * Academy News * Blogs * Dave's blogs * Fans Forum * Hammers Chat * Hugh's Blogs * News * Other * Sean's Blogs * Videos * West Ham Women * Whispers * xclude from feeds META * Register * Log in * Entries feed * Comments feed * WordPress.org Proudly powered by WordPress | Theme: Nuntius by WordPress.com. privacy ×
