WHAT IS WATER DAMAGE MITIGATION OR RESTORATION?

Water damage mitigation is the process of removing non-salvageable materials,
cleaning, disinfecting and drying the structure. Once the damage is stopped and
things are clean water damage restoration is making the repairs to the affected
building materials and contents to return them to pre-loss condition. Salvaging
things that make sense and replacing others so your home is fully usable again.
When you have water damage, the most critical component to ensuring things are

Common signs of water damage

Most of the time, water damage is sudden and very obvious where it’s coming
from.  Sometimes though, a small pin hole leak will develop in a plumbing line
and the signs may be less obvious or you may have excess humidity for an
extended period.  In these cases, here are some things to watch for where you
may have water damage and need our help.

 * Sticking doors
 * Dampness or cool feel to flooring
 * Water coming up through flooring at seams
 * Slight discoloration or darkness in walls or ceilings
 * Increased insect activity
 * Swollen baseboards or quarter round
 * Visible microbial growth
 * Water stains in ceilings below bathrooms or laundry rooms.

What to do if you suddenly find you have a water damage emergency
 * Call us as soon as you realize you need help.  We’ll be there within an
   hour.  Just call us at 336-829-5345.  That’s our main line and someone from
   our office will get your information and dispatch our on-call technician(s)
   immediately.  They will arrive on site, ready to assist in whatever you need
   and to help guide you through the process.

 * If possible, shut off the water to whatever is leaking.  Sometimes that means
   shutting off the whole house temporarily until you can get the line patched
   or capped.  In many cases our technicians can temporarily cap the line so you
   can have water turned back on to the rest of the home until a plumber is able
   to get there to fix the leak.

 * If you can, begin removing the excess water but if you don’t have a way to
   remove it or there’s simply too much for you to deal with, try to prevent it
   from spreading into other parts of the home.  Contain it the best you can. 
   This is where towels or blankets might come in handy!  Of course, if there’s
   risk of electric shock just avoid that area.  Our team is trained to handle
   those situations.

 * Remove small furniture, rugs or other items that are in contact with the
   water.  It’s very common for furniture legs to stain carpets or rugs when
   involved in water damage.  The furniture stain or rust gets into the carpet
   fibers it’s often impossible to remove. 

What not to do during a water damage event
 * Don’t take a long time trying to find the source if water continues to flow. 
   Just get the water stopped as quickly as you can.  Most lines in a home are
   ½” in diameter.  Allowing that line to run even a few extra minutes can lead
   to 20-50 more gallons of water and thousands more in damage.
 * Avoid contact with the water if you aren’t sure that it’s completely clean. 
   Water can quickly pick up contaminants, pesticides, bacteria, viruses and
   molds which can all be very hazardous to your health.
 * If water is running through a light fixture, don’t turn it on.  In some
   cases, the water can flow through and once cleaned and dried the lights may
   be as good as new but if you turn them on, you risk electric shock, damage to
   the wiring in the fixture or even potentially a fire.
 * Do not disturb visible mold.  If you see growth with the naked eye, then
   there are thousands if not millions of spores in that mold colony.  Once you
   disturb them they can float on air currents throughout your home and
   potentially contaminate other areas or be inhaled as you move things around. 
   Most molds are fairly benign and will cause allergy like symptoms but some
   are extremely dangerous so it’s best not to run the risk.
 * Don’t begin demolition.  Some people get anxious and want to start removing
   affected material and in some cases that’s what is needed but in others we
   may be able to clean, dry and restore those materials.  If you are not
   familiar with restoration, it’s best to let our trained technicians handle
   any removal needed.  In many cases only minimal demolition is really needed
   to dry the area and that will make for a much faster repair.

How much does water damage restoration cost?
 * When our technicians arrive they will be able to help you determine if your
   damage could potentially be covered by insurance.  If so, the cost should be
   the deductible in your policy.  In most cases when insurance agents tell
   clients to get an estimate it’s so the client doesn’t file a claim
   unnecessarily for a small amount of damage or file a claim on something that
   can’t be covered by the carrier.

EXTRACT

Remove any bulk water that we can. This minimizes the potential for secondary
damage, reduces the time it takes to dry materials and reduces the chance of
microbial growth in the affected area.





CLEAN

Before our team begins the drying process, we clean the affected area. This is
part of our industry standard and is done to protect the health of the occupants
of the home by reducing airborne particles in the work area and removal of
contaminants that were present.


DRY

This is where we contain off the affected area and place professional grade
drying equipment to dry the affected materials. These may include dehumidifiers,
air movers, air filtration devices, heaters or other specialty drying equipment
that our team is trained to use and set up.

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet
Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to
ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend,
and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters
your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile
so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website
covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console

 1. Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the
    website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even
    when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with

    of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs,
    and CSS flashing transitions.
 4. Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such
    as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered
    elements only.
 5. Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other
    issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the
    entire website instantly.
 6. Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia
    and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher
    meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
 7. Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color
    and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other
    functions.
