WAT IS BLAUWLICHT?
Blauwlicht is een vorm van zichtbaar licht met een korte golflengte en hoge
energie. Het komt van nature voor in zonlicht, maar wordt ook kunstmatig
geproduceerd door schermen van computers, smartphones, tablets en
LED-verlichting. Blootstelling aan blauwlicht, vooral 's avonds, kan het

WAT DOEN ONZE BRILLEN?
Blauwlicht filter brillen blokkeren blauw licht met behulp van lenzen die een
speciale coating hebben. Deze coating vermindert de hoeveelheid blauw licht die
je ogen bereikt, terwijl het overige licht gewoon doorgelaten wordt. Hierdoor
blijft je zicht helder en natuurlijk, maar worden de schadelijke effecten van
blauw licht effectief tegengegaan.

HOE KAN BLAUW LICHT ONZE STEMMING EN MENTALE GEZONDHEID BEÏNVLOEDEN?
Langdurige blootstelling aan blauw licht kan onze stemming en mentale gezondheid
beïnvloeden door verstoring van de slaapcycli. Slechte slaapkwaliteit kan leiden
tot stress, angst en depressie.
WAT ZIJN DE MOGELIJKE LANGE TERMIJN EFFECTEN VAN OVERMATIGE BLOOTSTELLING AAN
BLAUW LICHT OP DE OGEN?
Langdurige blootstelling aan blauw licht kan bijdragen aan digitale
oogvermoeidheid, en er is enig bewijs dat het kan bijdragen aan
maculadegeneratie, een oogziekte die het centrale zicht kan aantasten.
ZIJN ALLE SOORTEN BLAUW LICHT SCHADELIJK VOOR DE OGEN?
Niet alle soorten blauw licht zijn even schadelijk. Blauw-turkoois licht heeft
voornamelijk invloed op ons slaapritme, en minder op de ogen zelf. Het is vooral
het blauw-violet licht dat bij langdurige blootstelling schadelijk kan zijn voor
de ogen.
HOE KUNNEN WE DE NEGATIEVE EFFECTEN VAN BLAUW LICHT VERMINDEREN?
We kunnen de negatieve effecten van blauw licht verminderen door 's avonds het
gebruik van apparaten met blauw licht te beperken en door het dragen van blauw
licht filterende brillen om visueel comfort te behouden.
VERSTOORD SLAAPRITME
Blauw licht, vooral tussen 460 en 500 nm, beïnvloedt ons slaapritme door de
productie van melatonine te onderdrukken, het hormoon dat ons slaperig maakt.
Overdag helpt blauw licht ons alert te blijven, maar 's avonds kan
blootstelling, vooral van schermen zoals telefoons en computers, de
melatonineproductie verstoren. Dit kan het moeilijker maken om in slaap te
vallen en een gezond slaapritme te behouden.
