Driving innovation in Biomedical Materials research

Researchers at the forefront of advancements in Biomedical Materials, shaping
tomorrow.

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Advanced Biomedical Materials
(ABM) leverages the world-class strengths in biomedical materials at both The
University of Manchester and The University of Sheffield. Our programme fosters
a dynamic community of researchers contributing to the rapidly growing field of
biomedical materials research.

Biomedical materials is a rapidly growing research area globally and we’re
uniquely placed to be the only UK CDT offering bespoke training in this dynamic
sector. Operating in state-of-the-art labs, strategically supported by the UK
government's £235 million investment in the Henry Royce Institute, led by
Manchester and in partnership with Sheffield. Embracing our vision of becoming a
beacon of excellence, we prioritise a fair and inclusive research experience,
focusing on multiple aspects of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

Collaboration is at the heart of our approach. Our PhD students form a network
across multiple research cohorts, connecting with a vast community of
researchers and providing opportunities for lasting professional relationships.
Also, our strong industry links offer networking opportunities and industry
placements, events, and collaboration on research projects.

Upon graduation, researchers possess the knowledge, research experience,
industry connections, and confidence to thrive in a global research environment,
whether in academia or industry; and be part of the next generation of
internationally leading researchers.
