MO’NE DAVIS HAMPTON

December 19, 2018 by staff · Comments Off on Mo’ne Davis Hampton

Mo’ne Davis Hampton, Mo’ne Davis, who hurled her way into the annals of the
Little League World Series and the hearts of the sports world as a pitcher for
the Taney Dragons of South Philadelphia four years ago, has decided she will
attend Hampton University next fall.

“It’s a big relief,” said Davis, who will play softball at Hampton. “A lot of
people have been asking me where I was going. It feels great to finally commit
somewhere. It just feels so good.”

Davis, who used a 70 mph-plus fastball to become the first girl to win a Little
League World Series game as a pitcher and the first girl to toss a shutout in
Little League postseason history, selected Hampton over Bethune-Cookman
University, Southern University, Coppin State University and the University of
Pennsylvania. She signed a national letter of intent with Hampton on Tuesday.

“The campus is beautiful,” said Davis, who was interviewed Tuesday. “The girls
on the team are amazing. The coaches are amazing. It just kind of felt like
home, which is what you look for in a school. Everything felt right. Since I’m
spending my next four years there, I have to be comfortable.”

Hampton’s proximity to Philadelphia pleases her mother, Lakeisha Williams.

MANCHESTER CITY F.C. VS EVERTON: AGUERO, DE BRUYNE CLOSE TO MAN CITY RETURN,
SAYS GUARDIOLA

December 15, 2018 by staff · Comments Off on Manchester City F.C. Vs Everton:
Aguero, De Bruyne Close To Man City Return, Says Guardiola

Manchester City F.C. Vs Everton: Aguero, De Bruyne Close To Man City Return,
Says Guardiola, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne are both ready to make
comebacks for Manchester City as their injury-stretched squad attempts to cope
with the busy December fixture list.

Pep Guardiola will make a late decision as to whether to include both players in
his squad for Saturday’s Premier League home game against Everton, but the key
thing for the manager is the fact that his injury troubles are beginning to
ease.

Guardiola claimed he was down to 15 fit senior players for Wednesday’s 2-1
Champions League victory over Hoffenheim, and remains without a significant
chunk of his squad going into the weekend.

Playmaker David Silva, full-back Benjamin Mendy and goalkeeper Claudio Bravo are
longer-term absentees, while defenders John Stones and Danilo, plus midfielder
Fernandinho, will have late fitness checks before Guardiola takes a decision on
whether to include them.

Aguero, City’s 12-goal leading scorer, is in contention, though, having missed
their past four matches with a groin problem.

Belgium midfielder De Bruyne is also back in full training after being
restricted to just two starts this season because of two separate knee injuries.

He suffered ligament damage to his knee in August, and although he returned in
October, he then injured his left knee during the Carabao Cup win over Fulham on
November 1.

Guardiola is hopeful on both players, saying of Aguero: “He did the last two
training sessions, including on Thursday, and he has no pain in his injury so
we’ll decide.

“Kevin is in the same situation as Sergio. Yesterday he trained with no pain, we
will see.”

The win over Hoffenheim enabled City to get back on track after the
disappointment of seeing their 15-match unbeaten start to the Premier League
season end in a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea last Saturday.

Guardiola’s priority now, though, is to reassert themselves domestically, having
fallen a point behind new leaders Liverpool in the English title race.

INDIA VS PAKISTAN

June 18, 2017 by staff · Comments Off on India Vs Pakistan

India Vs Pakistan, Pakistan pulled off a dramatic win over defending champions
India in the finals of the Champions Trophy. With this win, Pakistan won the
coveted title for the first time in their cricketing history. After winning the
toss, Indian skipper Virat Kohli chose to bowl first on a flat deck and that
proved to be the undoing. The Indian bowlers had nothing much to exploit upon as
the opposition batsman made merry on a belter of a wicket. Fakhar Zaman was the
star of the show with a brilliant hundred while Mohammad Amir did the damage
with the ball.

Fakhar Zaman was ably supported by Azhar Ali and together they forged the second
successive opening stand of more than hundred. The other batsman too chipped in
well. However, the Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners as most of them
went for more than seven runs per over. When India came out to bat, the early
strikes by Mohammad Amir sealed the deal as India never got going. In the end,
chasing a target of 339, India folded up for just 150.

Congratulations Pakistan on a really comprehensive victory today. Well played,
deserved winners and a great result for Pakistan cricket.

Congratulations Pakistan. Worthy winners after a dramatic comeback to the
Champions Trophy

– Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) 18 June 2017

Well played, padosi…completely outplayed us in all departments. Sarfaraz’s
captaincy, Fakhar’s batting & Hassan’s bowling turned it around

– Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) 18 June 2017

India have played today exactly like many thought Pakistan would do …. me
including …. #Panic #INDvPAK #CT17

– Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) 18 June 2017

Pakistan win by 180 runs. 🇵🇰👏🏏🏆

– PCB Official (@TheRealPCB) 18 June 2017

Meanwhile, after this win, the record between the two sides in ICC tournaments
stands at 13 (India)-3 (Pakistan). Pakistan’s journey to the finals has been
anything but steady. But despite getting beaten by India in the opening match
they showed brilliant resilience in the finals to pick up the win.

RONALDO WORLD’S BEST AGAIN

December 13, 2016 by staff · Comments Off on Ronaldo World’s Best Again

Ronaldo World’s Best Again, After giving a European Championship title to
Portugal and another Champions League trophy to Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo
ends 2016 with something just for himself — his fourth world player of the year
award.

Ronaldo on Monday won his third Ballon d’Or award, which this year is being
handed out by France Football magazine separately from FIFA. Ronaldo also took
home the Ballon d’Or prize in 2013 and 2014, and the FIFA award in 2008 while
still playing for Manchester United.

The Portugal forward is also in contention for FIFA’s prize this year, along
with Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, who finished second and third to
Ronaldo on Monday, respectively.

“This was likely the best year of my career, individually and collectively,”
Ronaldo said in a pre-recorded video. “It was unforgettable.”

Only Ronaldo and Messi have been voted the best in the world since 2007, when
Kaka won the prize. Messi won a record fifth award last year.

“For me it’s a great honor to receive my fourth golden ball,” Ronaldo said. “I
never thought in my mind to win (it) four times, so I’m so pleased, I’m so
happy. I have to thank all my teammates, the national team, Real Madrid, all the
people, all the players who helped me win this individual award.”

Messi was runner-up for the fifth time in his career, while Griezmann finished
third after a remarkable year with France and Atletico Madrid. Luis Suarez was
fourth and Barcelona teammate Neymar fifth in the results announced by the
Paris-based magazine.

Ronaldo teammate Gareth Bale, who led Wales to the semifinals at Euro 2016, was
sixth. Leicester had Riyad Mahrez finishing seventh and Jamie Vardy eighth.
Madrid defender Pepe and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon tied for ninth.

The 31-year-old Ronaldo was picked from a list of 30 players by a group of
international journalists selected by France Football, which for the previous
six years awarded the coveted prize in partnership with FIFA. Soccer’s governing
body, which relies on the votes of coaches, team captains, journalists and — for
the first time — an online poll of fans, will be handing out its own award in
January.

“I’m happy because I worked very hard to win this,” Ronaldo said. “It’s not easy
to stay at a high level year after year. You can count on one hand the players
who can do it, there are very few who can, and I do it year after year. That
makes me very proud.”

Ronaldo is receiving the Ballon d’Or award a month after his contract with
Madrid was extended until 2021, keeping him in Spain until he is 36 years old.

It has been an up-and-down season for him so far, but he couldn’t have finished
the previous one more strongly.

Ronaldo converted the decisive penalty kick in a shootout against rival Atletico
Madrid in the final of the Champions League, helping the Spanish powerhouse win
the tournament for the second time in three seasons. Ronaldo also won the
Champions League title with Manchester United in 2008.

Ronaldo scored a record 11 goals in the group stage of the European competition
last season and finished with a total of 16, one short of the record he himself
set in 2014. He is the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 95 goals, and
is two away from becoming the first player to score 100 goals in European club
competitions.

It was with Portugal that Ronaldo achieved one of his greatest feats, helping
the nation win its maiden European title after several close calls, including a
runner-up finish at home in 2004 when it lost to Greece.

“To win a title for the first time with Portugal was something that was missing
from my resume,” Ronaldo said. “It was one of the most important moments of my
life.”

Ronaldo scored one of the goals for Portugal in the 2-0 win over Wales in the
semifinals at Euro 2016, then watched from the bench as his teammates defeated
France 1-0 in extra time. Ronaldo played only 25 minutes of the final at Stade
de France in July before being substituted because of a left-knee injury.

Ronaldo also won the European Super Cup with Madrid, as well as UEFA’s award as
the best player in Europe last season, a prize he also won in 2014.

Ronaldo is with Real Madrid in Japan to play in FIFA’s Club World Cup.
