SALTHAWK SPORTS ROUNDUP: BOYS WRESTLING TEAM COMPETES WELL AT COLBY TOURNAMENT

COLBY, Kan. – The Hutchinson High boys wrestling team competed at the annual
Eagle Invitational in Colby on Friday and Saturday. In seven duals, the
Salthawks won four. Two of their losses came by four points or fewer.

Hutchinson defeated Lexington, Neb. 39-33, Wray, Colo. 52-25, Wichita West 53-21
and Lawrence 58-19. Hutchinson lost to Phillipsburg 36-32, Colby 39-36 and Pine
Creek, Colo. 57-16.

Two Salthawks went a perfect 7-0 at the tournament. Cruz Cannon went undefeated
at 106 pounds, as did Camden Jensen at 295 pounds. Kade Smith went 6-1 at 157
pounds. Max Harris went 5-2 at 132 pounds, as did Bailey Bishop at 215 pounds.

Boys basketball – The Salthawks continued their strong start to the season
Tuesday as they comfortably beat Salina South 56-39. The win came on the heels
of an 84-58 win Friday at Buhler.

Hutchinson’s defense shined with 15 steals out of 19 South turnovers.

Eight different Salthawks scored at least four points, led by Terrell King’s 12.
King also had four steals. Daylee VanSyckle added 11 points.

Hutchinson will wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule with a home
game Friday against Goddard and then a game at Campus on Tuesday.

Girls basketball – Hutch suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling
36-28 at Salina South.

The Salthawks struggled scoring, managing just 10 points through the first half
and 16 through three quarters.

Grace Posch led Hutch with 13 points.

Friday, the Salthawks held off Buhler 50-44.

Hutch hosts Goddard on Friday before traveling Tuesday to Campus.

Girls wrestling – The Salthawks competed in a two-day tournament in Great Bend
on Friday and Saturday.

Miranda Sanders led Hutchinson with a 10th-place finish at 140 pounds. Sanders
went 4-3 and secured 10 team points.

Sophia Zwickl went 4-2 in the 135-pound division and placed 13th. She scored 12
points in the team standings.

Boys swimming – The Salthawks finished in third place at a home event on Tuesday
at the YMCA.

The Salthawks won two events. The 200-yard freestyle relay team, which included
Trent McClelland, Jordan Graham, Lakin Franz and Logan Most, won its event. Most
also won the 200 freestyle.
