ATTACK ON LAMPEDUSA

2021-01-23 2021-01-23

Here is an interesting article (in Italian) about Operation Corkscrew. It is
about the liberation of some Meditteranean isles (Lampedusa, Linosa, and
Lampione) prior to attacking Sicily. The article is an excerpt from a book
(PANTELLERIA LA “GIBILTERRA” ITALIANA) and shows text and photos from Lieutenant
Gino Granata. Find the…

INTERESTING ARTICLE ON DESERT STORM

2021-01-21 2021-01-21

I can’t believe it is already 30 years ago that we were watching in awe at the
tracer bullets rising into the air over Baghdad, without hitting anything, while
Saddam’s armed forces were annihilated from above….. At last some positive
action into the cesspool of extremism in the Middle East,…

MUSSOLINI’S DEFEAT AT HILL 731, MARCH 1941

2021-01-11 2021-01-15

by John Carr How the Greeks Halted Italy’s Albanian Offensive This is a
fascinating book, especially for those of us not specialized in the Balkan part
of World War 2. John Carr really has delivered a great story here,
professionally researched, and written in a very grasping way.Although the
title…

THE GERMANS IN NORMANDY

2020-12-22 2020-12-22

By Richard Hargreaves Here’s a book that will interest D-Day and other WW2
‘aficionados’. Whereas most history is written by the conquerors, it is always
refreshing to read books written by and about ‘the other side’.This book reads a
little like Cornelius Ryan’s famous The Longest Day. It is comprised…

by Brendan O’Carroll Brendan O’Carroll has put together an excellent and
interesting book in the Images of War series, covering the Long Range Desert
Group’s exploits and equipment during the period from 1940-1943. It is one of
the many special activities that were carried out by small groups of armed…

FIGHTING IN THE SKY

2020-11-12 2020-11-12

By John Fairley This Pen & Sword book is indeed a little different from the
books I normally read. My main interest is World War 2, globally, in all its
facets. This book however is about military aviation, over various periods and
hence in other battles than just WW2. What’s more,…
