Massachusetts has set leading goals for slashing greenhouse gas emissions to
net-zero by 2050 — with the first benchmark of 50 percent emissions reduction in
2030 rapidly approaching. While new clean energy generation and consumer
technologies like electric vehicles receive the lion’s share of attention, the
electric system needed to facilitate the transition to net zero can’t support a
sharp increase in megawatts without historic investments that must be enabled by
a shift in thinking about how the Commonwealth plans for meeting future energy
needs.

Massachusetts utilities, including National Grid and Eversource, recently
submitted Electric Sector Modernization Plans outlining how they propose
ensuring a successful, equitable and reliable clean energy transition. At this
event, join leading energy experts and business and energy executives to dive
deeper into the sheer scale of needed investments, and how regulators can ensure
that the Commonwealth keeps pace with its goals and the opportunities the
transition can provide.

Opening remarks: Elizabeth Mahony, Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of
Energy Resources

Presentation: Paul J. Hibbard, Principal, Analysis Group
