Aerospace engineering senior Austen Roberson wants to work on fast-paced
technologies that move society forward in a positive way: “All I can hope for is
that I’m making an impact, and that I’m making a difference in people’s lives,”
he says.

RESEARCH NEWS

EECS researchers have developed a device that can control light at unprecedented
speeds. This spatial light modulator could be used to create super-fast lidar
sensors for self-driving cars, or brain scanners capable of generating
higher-resolution images.

AROUND CAMPUS

During a special screening of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” students
expressed pride at seeing MIT portrayed in a film that celebrates racial and
gender diversity in STEM. One of the film’s characters is depicted as a student
at the Institute.

As a biomedical engineer and a dancer, Research Affiliate Shriya Srinivasan is
dedicated to investigating the body’s movements and sensations. Whether in the
lab or on stage, “I’m thinking about how we create a sense of feeling,” she
says.

AROUND CAMPUS

Senior Teresa Gao has been named one of the 12 winners of the George J. Mitchell
Scholarship’s Class of 2024, and will study augmented and virtual reality at
Trinity College Dublin. Gao is the fifth MIT student to be named a Mitchell
Scholar.

RESEARCH NEWS

Researchers at MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms have made progress toward flocks
of assembler robots that could build almost anything — including buildings,
vehicles, and even bigger robots.
