R452.3M Total available for distribution This refers to the portion of the license revenue that is available for distribution to SAMRO members after deducting operating expenses and other costs incurred by the organisation. R253.1M Total distribution paid to members This refers to the amount of money that has been distributed to SAMRO members as royalties for the use of their works. 15 Number of distributions This refers to the number of times SAMRO has made royalty distributions to its members throughout the year. CREATORS AND USERS HOW CREATORS AND USERS ARE CONNECTED Music creators (song writers, composers and publishers) are entitled to royalties every time their music is used in licensed establishments such as live music venues, radio and television, pubs, shopping malls, cinemas and more. The role of SAMRO is to license these establishments and ensure that members are fairly compensated for the usage of their music and are acting within the confines of the law. SAMRO WHAT WE DO SAMRO collects licence fees from establishments that use music like clubs, deejay banks, retailers and many others. We then distribute these license fees to members in the form of royalties. As a Music Creator, you need to apply to become a member. As a Music User, you need to apply for a licence.
