Steak sauce! You’ll be surprised how much of a difference it makes. TEST KITCHEN TIPS “This egg salad has a savory tang that just hits right,” according to culinary producer and test kitchen expert Nicole McLaughlin. Here are some tips and tricks from Nicole: * Everyone has their favorite way to make hard-boiled eggs. Here’s how Nicole does it: Place the eggs in cold water, bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for nine minutes. Remove them from the heat, let them sit for about one minute, then shock them in ice water and peel. * Once you’re finished mixing up the ingredients, give the egg salad a taste. This way, you won’t over or under season with salt and pepper. * Nicole likes to serve her egg salad with crunchy lettuce between two slices of lightly toasted bread. The perfect basic egg salad sandwich! INGREDIENTS * 5 eggs * 3 tablespoons mayonnaise * 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard * 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish * 1 teaspoon steak sauce * ¼ teaspoon paprika * ¼ teaspoon dried dill weed * salt and ground black pepper to taste * 1 pinch cayenne pepper DIRECTIONS 1. Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 15 minutes. Remove eggs from hot water, cool under cold running water, and peel. 2. Chop eggs and transfer to a large bowl. 3. Stir mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet pickle relish, steak sauce, paprika, and dill into eggs until well mixed; season with salt and black pepper. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, if desired. 4. Sprinkle with cayenne pepper before serving. The addition of steak sauce brought a nice flip to the standard and came off well. I would definitely use this again. I substituted boiled fish heads for eggs and added a light balsamic glaze while mixing JUST KIDDING I followed it as listed and it was pretty good. Read More Helpful (360) Most helpful critical review naples34102 11/09/2012 I was intrigued about the unique combination of ingredients in this egg salad recipe, but in the end it just didn’t appeal to me. Apparently what intrigued me, the combination of sweet pickle relish, Dijon (way too much of it at that), steak sauce and dill wasn’t a good combination for me. It’s always interesting to try something “outside the box” but in this case I’m glad I only made a small batch of this. Do you mean steak sauce or Worcestershire? I've use that in egg salad before, but not steak sauce, which can have many different flavors depending on the brand. Read More Helpful (0) JerKos 11/10/2023 I haven't tried this yet, but I have to agree with RPM, except I think it's okay to give your changes to a recipe but indicate it you tried it the way the current recipes were made first. That way if I don't like it, I can go back and try a different way. Read More Helpful (2) Allrecipes Member 11/10/2023 First: thank you RPM! Finally someone said it! That’s as bad as “I haven’t made it yet but it looks good” or “I don’t like (insert ingredients here) so I won’t make it.” NO ONE CARES. Make it as is or don’t review. Second: I made this and it’s fabulous! Will definitely make it every time I want egg salad. Read More Helpful (2) Allrecipes Member 11/08/2023 Too much mustard! Read More Helpful (0) Allrecipes Member 10/27/2023 A good combination of ingredients, but. My biggest peeve with egg salad is the egg whites being too large. Something about large chunks of whites with mayo, it's just slimy. My method for chopping is by using a pastry cutter on the eggs which combines the yolk and whites into almost a fine powder. When the other ingredients are combined the mixture turns into a wonderful moist spread with all the richness and flavor you're looking for without slimy whites. Give it a whirl. I'll bet you like it. P.S. Adding crunchy bacon bits just before serving puts this over the top. Read More Helpful (6) Terry Howard 10/19/2023 Enjoyed the change. Thank you. Read More Helpful (0) jmudd78er 10/17/2023 Made it just like the recipe stated. Delicious! Had a really wholesome, hearty taste. Definitely not bland. I think the steak sauce added that special, little kick. Will make for years to come I'm sure. Read More Helpful (1) Marjorie Karimi 10/17/2023 This egg salad recipe truly is magical! The flavors really play on your palate. Adding the steak sauce is what gave it the magic! So good! Read More Helpful (1) Load More reviews Not what you're looking for?
