I was adopted through Islington Adoption Society, London and only recently began discovering and researching my past. It has been a fascinating journey which incredibly is still unfolding with many surprises! The talk tells my story and how I learnt of my true origins. A fascinating and uplifting story with many twists and turns. PILGRIMAGE FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH 2ND. - Following her sudden death I embarked upon an unplanned 50 mile walk to see and experience all the sights and sounds. First, the day after her death walked from Liverpool Street Station to the Mansion House where the second proclamation of King Charles 111 was about to take place. Then onto St. Paul’s Cathedral and past Charing Cross Station and the Eleanor Cross, where her body stayed for 2 days while Westminster Abbey was prepared, more than 600 years ago for her funeral service. Then onto Trafalgar Square and The Mall to see and listen to the first proclamation. Fighting the crowds reached Buckingham Palace and watched flowers being laid in her memory. Then to Green Park and the floral tributes. Afterwards down Whitehall to Parliament Square and Westminster Abbey. Then back along the Thames to Liverpool Street. Three days later joined the queue from Tower Bridge to see her coffin, lying in state in Westminster Abbey. Two days later walked from Staines along the Thames to Windsor and the Long Walk to see the flowers and signed the Book of Condolences and light a candle in St. John the Baptist church. Two days later at the Victoria Monument opposite Buckingham Palace and listened to the service in Westminster Abbey before watching funeral cortege pass to Wellington Arch. A remarkable few days. ESSEX AIRFIELD WALKS - Essex had 15 USA Air force bases and together with the RAF played a major role in WW2. Today the airfields have been returned back to agriculture but there is much to see - Control towers, hangars, nissen huts and many memorials on site and in the nearby church.
