HOW TO CLEAR CACHE IN CHROME AND EDGE BROWSERS

By Bashkarla / How To

Both Chrome and Edge browsers allow cache clearing. Here are the steps to clear
cache in Chrome and Edge browsers.

Caching means storing copies of files in a specific temporary location. Web
caching in browsers is nothing different. All modern browsers like Chrome and
Edge have incredibly sophisticated caching mechanisms built into them. The basic
working principle of caching in a browser is rather simple. Whenever you visit a
web page, browsers automatically cache that page and its content to a local
temporary location. When you revisit the same web page, the browser can load it
much faster, thanks to the local copy. As an added benefit, caching also saves
bandwidth.

As good and valuable as caching is, it might not work or can go haywire at
times. For example, due to cache, you might not see updated information on a web
page, or in case of a corrupted browser cache, web pages might not load
properly. In those cases, you have to clear the browser cache manually.
Thankfully, all browsers have a simple mechanism to clear browser cache.

In this quick and simple guide, let me show the steps to clear cache in Chrome
browser and Microsoft Edge browser.

Jump to:

 * Clear Chrome cache
 * Clear Edge cache

STEPS TO CLEAR CHROME CACHE

To clear Chrome browser cache, follow these steps.

 1. Open the Chrome browser.
 2. Type “chrome://settings/clearBrowserData” in the address bar.
 3. Press “Enter.”
 4. Select “All Time” as Time Range.
 5. Select the “Cached images and files” checkbox.
 6. Uncheck all other checkboxes.
 7. Click the “Clear data” button.
 8. Chrome cache is cleared instantly.

First, open the Google Chrome browser. You can do that by double-clicking the
desktop shortcut or searching for “Google Chrome” in the Start menu. After
opening the browser, type “chrome://settings/clearBrowserData” in the address
bar and press Enter. This action will take you to the browsing history page. You
can also go to this page by selecting “Menu -> Settings -> Privacy & Security ->
Clear browsing data.”

Now, select “All Time” from the Time Range dropdown menu. This makes sure that
all the cache is deleted. Next, select the “Cached images and files” checkbox
and uncheck all other checkboxes. After that, click the “Clear data” button.

As soon as you click the Clear Data button, Chrome will delete the cache. Since
we selected “All Time” as the Time Range, the cache is deleted completely.

STEPS TO CLEAR EDGE CACHE

To clear the Microsoft Edge browser cache, follow these steps.

 1. Open the Edge browser.
 2. Type “edge://settings/clearBrowserData” in the address bar.
 3. Press “Enter.”
 4. Select “All Time” as Time Range.
 5. Select the “Cached images and files” checkbox.
 6. Uncheck all other checkboxes.
 7. Click the “Clear Now” button.
 8. Microsoft Edge cache is cleared instantly.

In Windows 10, click on the “Edge” icon on the taskbar to open the Microsoft
Edge browser. You can also search for it in the Start menu. After opening the
Edge browser, type “edge://settings/clearBrowserData” in the address bar and
press Enter. Now, select “All Time” in the Time Range dropdown menu. Next,
select the “Cached images and files” checkbox and uncheck all other checkboxes.
Finally, click the “Clear Now” button.

As soon as you do that, Microsoft Edge will clear the browser cache.

That is all. It is that simple to clear cache in Chrome and Edge browsers.

I hope that helps.

much as possible.

Did you know that Windows operating system itself has its own cache? Here’s how
