Share Post Share Print Copy Email By Kerry Lynch • Editor, AIN monthly magazine December 11, 2023 With the U.S. Senate still appearing at loggerheads over a long-term FAA reauthorization bill, House Transportation and Infrastructure leaders have introduced another short-term extension of the agency’s operating authority and aviation excise, this time to March 8. The bill offered by T&I Chairman Sam Graves (R-Missouri) and Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-Washington) would provide more time not only for the Senate to work through its issues over the bill, but also for the House and Senate to hash out the differences of their FAA reauthorization packages. Shortly before the FAA’s authorization was set to expire at the end of September, lawmakers pushed through an extension to the end of the year. But few legislative days remain this year as both chambers plan to break for the holidays at the end of this week. While understanding the necessity of the latest extension, general aviation groups have urged lawmakers to reach an agreement, saying that continued short-term extensions of the FAA’s authorization “challenge the certainty that industry and the FAA depend on to enable long-term planning and investment in many critical areas required to ensure the safety of the NAS and America’s global leadership in aviation.” MORE IN REGULATIONS AND GOVERNMENT GUERNSEY'S 2-REG AIRCRAFT REGISTRY MARKS 10TH ANNIVERSARY GUERNSEY IS A BRITISH CROWN DEPENDENCY AND PART OF THE CHANNEL ISLANDS Finance, Taxes, Insurance BUSINESS AVIATION BRACES FOR BRUSSELS ECO-PROTESTS THIS WEEK, A PRIVATE JET WAS DAMAGED BY PAINT AT TIRES AIRPORT IN PORTUGAL Environment AINSIGHT: INCIDENTAL FINDINGS AND MEDICAL SCREENINGS PILOTS SHOULD NOT BE RETICENT TO DO RECOMMENDED MEDICAL SCREENINGS Regulations and Government NAVAJO NATION WANTS AIR TOURS TO PAY UP THE TRIBE MAY SUPPORT AIR TOURS IN EXCHANGE FOR ECONOMIC INCENTIVES Regulations and Government SOUTH KOREA ACCEPTS COUNTRY’S FIRST EMBRAER PRAETOR 600 SPECIALLY EQUIPPED AIRCRAFT WILL PERFORM NAVAID INSPECTIONS AND OTHER DUTIES Safety FORMER FAA HEAD DAVID HINSON FLIES WEST HINSON, 90, HAD AMASSED MORE THAN 9,000 FIGHT HOURS ON 70 TYPES Regulations and Government IMPATIENT EVTOL START-UPS MAY HAVE TO EMBRACE CRAWL-WALK-RUN TYPE CERTIFICATION REMAINS AN UPHILL TASK, AS DOES BUILDING THE ADVANCED AIR MOBILITY ECOSYSTEM Regulations and Government FAA PROPOSES INCREASE IN CVR RECORDING TO 25 HOURS RULE WOULD NOT EXPAND CVR APPLICABILITY IN THE GENERAL AVIATION FLEET Avionics AIN'S PUBLICATIONS * Aviation International News (AIN) * Business Jet Traveler * FutureFlight SUBSCRIPTIONS * Subscribe * Customer Service * Renew RESOURCES * Print Archives * Expert Opinion * In-Depth Reports * Videos * Webinars * Airshows & Conventions * Aviation Events ABOUT AIN * About * Our Writers * History * Contact Us * Advertise Copyright ©2023 AIN Media Group, Inc.
