Donate today to help unlock these additional funds! * Overview SBP shrinks the time between disaster & recovery for at-risk communities. More About Us **Thanks to a generous donor, the first $25,000 we raise on Give NOLA Day will be MATCHED** Since Hurricane Katrina, SBP, founded as the St. Bernard Project, has provided immediate disaster response assistance and long-term recovery support to communities in need when disasters strike. While we have expanded beyond the New Orleans region and have operating sites across the country, we haven't forgotten our roots. We are committed to helping our Southeast Louisiana neighbors in need. Over the last year, families across the Greater New Orleans region have experienced the devastating impact of natural disasters. Since last August, our team has been helping families rebuild and recover from Hurricane Ida, a category four hurricane that made landfall on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. To date, we have helped 338 families recover from the storm by providing hands-on services such as roof tarping, mucking & gutting, and debris removal. We aim to rebuild 75 homes by the end of the year with your support. We have also responded to the recent tornado that tore through Arabi in St. Bernard Parish and have been in the field helping impacted families since day one. In both cases, our teams sprung into action to assess damages, remove debris, and install tarps on damaged roofs. We then performed outreach to identify uninsured homeowners from socially vulnerable populations needing home rebuild assistance. Our goal is to shrink the time between disaster and recovery and rebuild in a resilient way so we can fortify homes to withstand future disasters. SBP has also expanded its mission to provide affordable, resilient, and energy-efficient housing through our Opportunity Housing Program. Since the program's inception in 2010, SBP has developed over 200 affordable units for veterans and low-to-moderate income clients. Please support SBP in accelerating disaster recovery for New Orleans residents and making homeownership accessible to those in need. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Testimonials Barbara Hartman is a lifelong Louisiana resident whose home on King Street holds countless memories cherished by her family. Barbara originally inherited the house from her parents, and it is where she raised her daughter Debra. Now that Barbara is oxygen-dependent and lives with Alzheimer's disease, Debra is her mother's primary caretaker. When the weather is nice, they enjoy sitting together on their front porch, enjoying the blooming flowers, and saying hello to their neighbors. When Hurricane Ida hit in the summer of 2021, their roof collapsed, allowing rain to saturate the inside of their home. Drywall fell, mold flourished, and most of Barbara's belongings were damaged or destroyed. Debra reached out to several organizations for help, but she never heard back. After her neighbor told her about SBP, she requested assistance, and we sent a team of volunteers out to removed debris from her yard and gut her home. We then provided her with a new IBHS Fortified roof, installed new drywall, and performed plumbing and electrical work. Today, Ms. Debra is relieved to have put the hardship of Hurricane Ida behind her. "We're finally back home because of your kind donations," she said, sharing a message of gratitude for friends and donors like you. "We are someplace that some people will never be able to go back to. Thank you! There really is no place like home!" Thanks to your support, SBP can assist disaster-impacted families like Debra's before reaching their breaking points. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Organization Information Category Housing Parish Orleans Phone 504-277-6831 THIS SITE REQUIRES JAVASCRIPT, PLEASE ENSURE IT IS ENABLED.
