PEOPLE WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND THE ART OF NEGOTIATION

November 23, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

We’re all familiar with the concept of online shopping, but buying second-hand
products from people is a whole other story. When buying from people online,
there’s no fixed price, and there’s room for negotiation. If you’re looking to
get a reasonable price for your second-hand goods, make sure you’re being
reasonable, and most of all, polite to people. Even though we don’t know them
and may never speak to them again, there’s no reason to be rude. When both sides
are reasonable and polite, buying and selling stuff online can go pretty
smoothly, and it’s a great way to reuse old products and help our environment.
It’s a win-win situation and even our planet profits from it. On the other hand,
there are some sketchy types online, and mostly, people who don’t really
understand the art of negotiation. If you’ve ever placed an item online for
sale, you probably chanced upon these people – who sometimes try to lower the
price to nothing, or otherwise make odd suggestions. That’s what happened to
those people, and they’ve decided to share their experiences with the world.

NO NAGOTIATIONS

Some people don’t realize the value of what they’re looking for. If you’ve ever
dealt with a low-baller before, you know exactly what we mean. They’re not just
haggling, but they’re trying to rip you off and probably show off on social
media about striking a good (for them) deal.

The thing is that the replier knows that the seller isn’t accepting nagotiations
but tries to offer a lot less than what the phone’s worth. Not only that, but
the longer the seller takes to respond, the lower the offer goes. Who could pass
up on a deal like that?

LAST WISH

Other times while selling stuff on social media, you’ll come across people
who’ll tell you a sob story in the hopes that you’ll feel sorry for them. They
expect you to drop the price because some unfortunate thing happened to someone
you don’t know. Most of the time, these stories are all lies, and you wouldn’t
be fulfilling some kid’s dream of selling a $500 computer for $50.

How shameless do you have to be to pitch a story about leukemia to get a
discount from a total stranger? Sure, you’d be an amazing person to drop your
asking price by 90%. An amazingly gullible person.
