What is ARTutor?

ARTutor  is an Augmented Reality Educational Platform developed by Advanced
Educational Technologies and Mobile Applications (AETMA) Research Lab at the
Democritus University of Thrace, since 2016.

ARTutor is available free of cost to all the educators and the students arround
the globe, in order to help them to develop technology enhanced educational
material and improve the educational performances and experiences.

ARTutor, aims to “Immersive Education for All” vision, in accordance to the
UNESCO initiative “Education for All”, trying to remove socioeconomic or
cultural barriers which prohibit the access to high end educational technologies
and to the technology enchased learning in general.

Its focus is on adding digital content on traditional educational books and
other texts, with the aim of assisting the students’ independent study and
ultimately improving the understanding of the material.

The main impact of ARTutor in the field of education can be summarized to the
following objectives:

 * Maximize students’ engagement to the educational material (textbooks).
 * Enable teachers with limited IT skills to develop augmented reality books and
   create highly engaging and immersive educational activities and experiences
   in the class.
 * The implementation of a single mobile application to enable students to
   access all the augmented reality books in order to enhance their study and to
   promote independent, self-paced distance learning
 * Easy interaction with the enhanced digital content of any book using haptic
   commands in order to assist even students with movement disabilities

 

Where can I use ARTutor?

ARTutor is a domain-independent platform that can be used in many fields.



All printed material can be augmented with ARTutor. ARTutor can help you tell
engaging stories that jump off the page. Digital information and multimedia
material can be added on top of pages. You can add interactive images, videos,
3D models, play sounds or send users to external web links. You can also create
virtual and printed AR cards and add interactive content of your choosing. In
publishing Educators can add interactive content to educational material (in
printed or electronic format) such as books (or e-books), PowerPoint
presentations, essays, posters. Static material can now be transformed with AR
by adding images, videos, interactive tests and 3D models. Students can now
grasp more easily complex concepts and visualize 3D models in the real world! In
education Use ARTutor to give life to static flyers by adding interactive
content and boost sales. You can also provide coupons to your customers when
they scan your flyer. Furthermore, you can enhance your webpage with AR, by
adding 3D models that come out of the screen and can be viewed in any surface.
Now, customers can add your products in their physical environment and
experience the product before they buy, which helps them make a purchase
decision faster. You can also make interactions with your brand fun, exciting
and memorable in order to connect with your audience. In marketing Maximize
audience engagement and experience using AR experiences built with ARTutor.
Enhance exhibitions by creating educational games with AR and let visitors
interact with artifacts in the digital space. In museums Overcome cognitive
barriers in the high-end training process for the industries like healthcare,
mining, oil and gas, and similar industries. Add your training material to
ARTutor and simplify the training process. Cost effective training through
ARTutor will allow trainees to perform any hard-core training modules with
complex machinery with only a tablet in their hand or a mobile phone. Training
Treasure Hunt Use ARTutor to build a treasure hunt activity. Prepare the clues
and let students find them, scan them with the mobile app and follow the clues
to find the hidden treasure. This activity will surely engage your students and
it can be used indoors or outdoors using clues based on GPS location! In
educational games Escape Room Build interactive learning experiences with
ARTutor. Create each puzzle and place it in the room. Students can try to solve
the puzzles in order to find the exit of the room. Puzzles can be about

View the AR experience using the ARTutor mobile application and share it with
everyone.
