HEALTHY HOMES REGULATIONS 2019

What you need to know?

New healthy homes standards for rental properties in New Zealand became law on 1
July 2019. The standards will play a significant role in improving the wellbeing
of New Zealanders and their families.

This include new minimum standards for heating, insulation, ventilation,
moisture and drainage, and draught stopping in rental properties.

Tenancy Services have released a full set of documents and standards that rental
properties MUST follow to meet the Healthy Homes Standards.




TIMELINE TO MEET REGULATION DEADLINES


 * BY JULY 1, 2019
   
   Insulation must meet RTA standards set in 2016.


 * BY JULY 1, 2019
   
   New/Varied Tenancy Agreements to include declaration of intention to comply
   to the 5 Healthy Homes Standards.


 * BY DECEMBER 1, 2020
   
   New/Varied Tenancy Agreements to include information on current levels of the
   5 Healthy Homes Standards.


 * BY JULY 1, 2021
   
   Rentals must comply with all the new Standards within 90 days from entering
   any new or varied Tenancy Agreements.


 * BY JULY 1, 2023
   
   All Kāinga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) houses and registered Community
   Housing Provider houses must comply with the healthy homes standards


 * BY JULY 1, 2024
   
   ALL rental properties must be compliant with the 5 Healthy Home Standards.
