This whole fediverse trend of responding to ideas about improving moderation
with "well just make a personal block list, there you go"

really needs to die.

Personal filters and block lists are not "moderation" they aren't an affirmation
of shared community values, they can't replace moderation to effectively stem
the flow of hate content.

They don't meet the need.

If you don't have this need that is fine. There are places you can go. But lots
of people do. jeeeeez

I would love to see someone list general-interest tech media which published
articles describing Mastodon/the fediverse as complicated and confusing, a
couple of months after assuring readers that crypto wallets and apps were “not
that hard to get the hang of”.

oh i see that someone who got his phd at the media lab decided to use ChatGPT as
a therapy standin for thousands of patients without their clear consent, was
surprised when the patients hated it, and is now surprised that people are
pissed about it.

oh i also see that he declared the study exempt from IRB and ethics review
because it was for a business with no intent to publish in an academic journal
and he thinks filing for IRB approval is hard.
