With the arrival of frosty mornings and toasty mugs, when the nature becomes
ready to welcome the 'Spring of Genius', the dental fraternity will be looking
forward eagerly to the magnum opus of the century. The 74th Indian Dental
Conference & conclusion of Centenary Celebration of Dentistry in India will be
held on & from 24th December to 26th December, 2020 Biswa Bangla Convention
Centre, New Town, Kolkata. The celebration heads back to 2017, when Indian
Dental Association WB State Branch had initiated the Centenary Celebration of
Indian Dentistry. Our aim is to create a 'Clean Dental State' by the end of 100
years of Dentistry in India. To commemorate this glorious event of Completion of
100 years of Dentistry the National Conference will witness the mega event which
constitutes of seminars by International Keynote Speakers, National Scholars
from different states, the renowned stalwarts of Dentistry of our own state
along with eminent papers by budding dentists, UG & PG papers by the zestful
students & enchanting Cultural Program by the young souls. This fiesta will
testify the alliance of new and old souls where they can exchange and adopt
their scientific outlooks and enhance their vista of knowledge.

With the completion of 100 years of nidus of dentistry in South East Asia- the
prestigious Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College and Hospital, your joyous and whole
hearted participation will carve its etch in golden letters on the glorious
pages of history, the legacy which was handed over to us by the great soul, Dr.

FIRST RESEARCH STUDY!

The Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Education and Research Center and Super Specialty
Dental Clinic, an initiative of the Indian Dental Association, is a DSIR
recognized research center established in 2017. The initiative was sphere headed
by the Honorary Secretary General, Dr. Ashok Dhoble and the research team at
IDA. They laid down the foundation with a vision to raise the standards of
dental research to the highest realm, with IDA as a leader, initiating and
guiding need based quality dental and oral health research through a
multi-dimensional approach. Today we are extremely proud to announce the
successful completion of our first research project!

Dear Members,We are happy to inform all the members that Dental Practice is now
classified under Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). At this juncture,
we are glad to apprise all the members that IDA Head office had been regularly
representing to the relevant Ministry, Government of India to grant the status
of MSME to Dental Practice activity. Our special thanks to Shri Nitin
Gadkari,&nbsp;Hon’ble Minister for Road Transport, Highways&amp; Shipping and
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India for making this happen.
It is important to also share with you that our concerted efforts of last five
years and more, working with various Government bodies, has begun to yield
results. We expect more such beneficial changes to happen in the near future for
the betterment of our Profession.

LAUNCH OF MAHILA AROGYA ABHIYAAN BY SMT. SUPRIYA SULE, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

A Free Oral Screening and Breast Cancer Awareness Camp was organized by the
Indian Dental Association AND Bayer Prayas Foundation on January 13, 2020.
&nbsp;The camp was held at IDA’s Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Education &amp; Research
Centre and Super Specialty Dental Clinic, &nbsp;Prabhadevi, Opp. Siddivinayak
Temple, Dadar (West), Mumbai. &nbsp;&nbsp;Smt. Supriya Sule, Hon’ble Member of
Parliament,&nbsp;was the honoured guest at the inaugural function.
&nbsp;&nbsp;The Camp was a part of IDA’s Women Empowerment activity under
its&nbsp;MAHILA AROGYA ABHIYAN Programme. &nbsp;The focus was on oral and
general health awareness as well as breast cancer awareness. &nbsp;Oral and
Breast Cancer Screening was held for three days from 13 January to 15 January,
2020.&nbsp;Speaking on the occasion the chief guest, Smt. Supriya Sule,
highlighted the need for awareness about Oral and Breast cancer as&nbsp;cancer
cases have seen an alarming rise over the past few years in India.The chief
guest highly appreciated the oral health initiative carried out by IDA
addressing the needs of the women. She also complimented innovative programs
like Discovering Hands, a unique Corporate Societal Engagement initiative of
Bayer, where visually impaired women are trained to conduct physical breast
examination using their highly developed sense of touch. These women undergo a
nine-month training period after which they are certified as Medical Tactile
Examiners (MTEs).The Self Examination techniques she said, helps to increase
attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well
as palliative care of this disease. &nbsp;She added&nbsp;that currently there is
not enough knowledge on the causes of oral and breast cancer. &nbsp;Therefore,
early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone for cancer control. When
cancer is detected early, and if adequate diagnosis and treatment are available,
there is a good chance that cancer can be cured.Furthermore, she mentioned about
the correlation between oral health and general health emphasizing on mouth
being the window to your body hence taking care of your oral cavity can prevent
various diseases associated to it.&nbsp;She added that it is admirable that such
attention is being given by IDA not only to Oral Health, Oral Cancer but also
Breast Cancer.She highly appreciated the technical aspect of breast cancer
presented &nbsp;by Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director at the Breast centre, CK Birla
Hospital, Gurgaon.&nbsp;She suggested to integrate Oral and Breast cancer
programmes with ASHA and Anganwadi workers and ensured to provide support for
the cause. &nbsp;Speaking of the importance of the need to improve oral health
and general health, she appreciated IDA’sHealthy Mouth and Healthy Body campaign
and suggested to begin with, in Maharashtra State, to also include Healthy Mind
in the quote.

IDA AND ORAL B COLLABORATES FOR SMILE SURAKSHA PROGRAM UNDER PUBLIC SAFETY
INITIATIVE

The world is going through one of the extraordinary health challenges the
humankind ever faced. The implications are manifold. While certain industries
and services have got back into operations faster, most of the dental clinics
are still struggling to get back to normalcy.Dental professionals as also their
patients are at high risk of getting exposed to viruses. In the current COVID 19
pandemic, dental care settings always bear the risk of infection since most
dental procedures require close contact with the patients’ oral cavity, saliva,
blood, and respiratory tract secretions. Therefore, dental surgeons, auxiliaries
as well as patients undergoing dental procedures are at high risk of
cross-infection.Indian Dental Association and Oral-B recognize these challenges
and identifies the need of an organized effort to ensure safety of the public as
well as the dental professionals. &nbsp;Thus, launching the “Smile Suraksha
Program”. The main objective of this initiative is to help the dentist in
implementing best practices in their clinics and &nbsp;ensure that not only does
the patients find a safe place to take care of their oral health, but also give
the dentist the confidence to continue the commendable work of creating a better
smile.The program was launched on digital platform by Dr. Ravindar Singh, IDA
President, Mr.Gopalakrishnan Kalianna, Senior director- Procter and Gamble,
India sub-continent and Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon. Sec. General, IDA.Dr. Ravindar
Singh spoke about the challenges faced by the dentist in the current scenario
enlightening about infections. He beautifully summarized the initiative quoting
‘The “Smile Suraksha Programme” being launched by IDA jointly with ORAL B is
aimed at empowering the dental surgeons face the challenges posed by the corona
virus with a SMILE.’Mr. Gopalakrishnan pointed out few challenges of how to
overcome the fear of both patients and staffs, how to prevent any infection
despite the doctors spend significant time with patients and what really
protects dental doctors given that they are in a high contact profession. He
added that both IDA and Oral B are committed to the cause of oral health and the
welfare of the dental professionals and is extremely proud and happy to initiate
the Smile Suraksha Program with Indian Dental Association.Dr. Ashok Dhoble said
with this collaboration with oral-b we intend to give confident to patients and
public will to undergo dental treatment at IDA members dental clinic reinstating

not enough knowledge on the causes of oral and breast cancer. &nbsp;Therefore,
early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone for cancer control. When
cancer is detected early, and if adequate diagnosis and treatment are available,
there is a good chance that cancer can be cured.Furthermore, she mentioned about
the correlation between oral health and general health emphasizing on mouth
being the window to your body hence taking care of your oral cavity can prevent
various diseases associated to it.&nbsp;She added that it is admirable that such
attention is being given by IDA not only to Oral Health, Oral Cancer but also
Breast Cancer.She highly appreciated the technical aspect of breast cancer
presented &nbsp;by Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director at the Breast centre, CK Birla
Hospital, Gurgaon.&nbsp;She suggested to integrate Oral and Breast cancer

IDA AND ORAL B COLLABORATES FOR SMILE SURAKSHA PROGRAM UNDER PUBLIC SAFETY
INITIATIVE

The world is going through one of the extraordinary health challenges the
humankind ever faced. The implications are manifold. While certain industries
and services have got back into operations faster, most of the dental clinics
are still struggling to get back to normalcy.Dental professionals as also their
patients are at high risk of getting exposed to viruses. In the current COVID 19
pandemic, dental care settings always bear the risk of infection since most
dental procedures require close contact with the patients’ oral cavity, saliva,
blood, and respiratory tract secretions. Therefore, dental surgeons, auxiliaries
as well as patients undergoing dental procedures are at high risk of
cross-infection.Indian Dental Association and Oral-B recognize these challenges
and identifies the need of an organized effort to ensure safety of the public as
well as the dental professionals. &nbsp;Thus, launching the “Smile Suraksha
Program”. The main objective of this initiative is to help the dentist in
implementing best practices in their clinics and &nbsp;ensure that not only does
the patients find a safe place to take care of their oral health, but also give
the dentist the confidence to continue the commendable work of creating a better
smile.The program was launched on digital platform by Dr. Ravindar Singh, IDA
President, Mr.Gopalakrishnan Kalianna, Senior director- Procter and Gamble,
India sub-continent and Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon. Sec. General, IDA.Dr. Ravindar
Singh spoke about the challenges faced by the dentist in the current scenario
enlightening about infections. He beautifully summarized the initiative quoting
‘The “Smile Suraksha Programme” being launched by IDA jointly with ORAL B is
aimed at empowering the dental surgeons face the challenges posed by the corona
virus with a SMILE.’Mr. Gopalakrishnan pointed out few challenges of how to
overcome the fear of both patients and staffs, how to prevent any infection
despite the doctors spend significant time with patients and what really
protects dental doctors given that they are in a high contact profession. He
added that both IDA and Oral B are committed to the cause of oral health and the
welfare of the dental professionals and is extremely proud and happy to initiate
the Smile Suraksha Program with Indian Dental Association.Dr. Ashok Dhoble said

FIRST RESEARCH STUDY!

The Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Education and Research Center and Super Specialty
Dental Clinic, an initiative of the Indian Dental Association, is a DSIR
recognized research center established in 2017. The initiative was sphere headed
by the Honorary Secretary General, Dr. Ashok Dhoble and the research team at
IDA. They laid down the foundation with a vision to raise the standards of
dental research to the highest realm, with IDA as a leader, initiating and
guiding need based quality dental and oral health research through a
multi-dimensional approach. Today we are extremely proud to announce the
