You are familiar with policies and public debate on climate, energy and transport/mobility, you do not give into false solutions and you know how the EU institutions work. You can spot the difference between greenwashing and policies that actually trigger systemic change. You enjoy developing political strategies just as much as implementing them. You understand the power of campaigning to trigger political change. You have at least 7 years’ relevant experience at the start. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To campaign for the climate related policies, political reforms and financing that are necessary for system change in Europe and against greenwashing and false solutions. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develop EU political strategies and propose priorities for campaigning to achieve systemic change (or monitor and analyse relevant EU policies and political development, and help Greenpeace respond effectively to emerging political opportunities); * Ensure that Greenpeace is aware of and can respond effectively to new EU political campaigning opportunities and threats (or cooperate with campaigners across Europe to provide strategic advice and policy expertise); * Provide Greenpeace with strategic advice on climate and related policies (energy, mobility, finance); (Implement campaign interventions on the given topic -depending on the campaign issue- in line with agreed strategies); * Influence European (and, when required international) legislation relevant to Greenpeace’s European Theory of Change and Greenpeace's global priorities/Develop, represent and advocate Greenpeace positions with the aim of influencing EU politics and achieving systemic change; * Monitor and analyse relevant EU & global legislative and political developments; * Maintain formal and informal contacts with decision-makers in the EU institutions and relevant stakeholders (NGOs, industry, scientists etc.); * If strategically required, build effective coalitions and alliances with other players; * Advise and support Greenpeace colleagues on priority EU-related work; * Coordinate the implementation by national campaigners of the campaigns political EU priorities; * When needed, prepare/check Greenpeace materials to ensure consistent and accurate external communication on EU issues; * Act as a Greenpeace spokesperson for different media (radio, television, online, print); * Proactively suggest to the EU communications team potential media stories or communications ideas; * Act as a spokesperson on the relevant topic for media and in public. ABOUT YOU: ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE * At least seven years of relevant experience (climate policy/campaigning, climate finance, mobility, climate false solutions/greenwashing); * Ability to design political and campaigning strategy/ability to implement political and campaigning strategy; * Fluency in policy analysis and writing; * Understanding of the roles that science, politics, economics, industry, media and social change plays in campaigning; * Experience in making change happen through public campaigns, and the ability to view environmental policy in terms of campaign opportunities; * Be media trained so as to be able to act as a spokesperson; * Demonstrated awareness and knowledge of the European political environment; * Knowledge of EU institutions and their decision-making process; * Knowledge and/or experience in international politics and laws; * Knowledge and/or experience in relevant EU legislation; * Knowledge and/or experience in campaigning; * Knowledge and/or experience in advocacy; * Knowledge and/or experience in lobbying; * Knowledge and/or experience in effectively dealing with confrontational situations (e.g. political debates, …); * Advanced Skills in written and verbal communication; * Preferably some experience in line management; * Knowledge and/or experience relevant for the post (at least) one of the Greenpeace campaign themes; * Commitment to Greenpeace’s objectives and values; * Fluency in written and spoken English; * Fluency in written and spoken second EU language. The first round of interviews for this position will be held via Zoom in the week of September 27th. The interview may be preceded by a test.
