ALEC DREW OWNER - THE BUSINESS EXPERT "THE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE OF TECHNOLOGY" Speaker Bio Synopsis Alec Drew, KBE shares his passion and knowledge around productivity and communications with business leaders both nationally and internationally. A major part of his 40 years in business was spent as Managing Partner of a highly successful branding agency where he worked with a wide range of CEO’s across all sectors. His insightful questioning and straight talking opened up new conversations, giving them fresh insights into their own organisations and uncovering valuable revenue streams that were previously overlooked. One strategy helped his clients achieve €3.23 billion in additional sales over a 5 year period. He regularly demonstrates the positive effect on shareholder value when all levels of an organisation speak the same language. As an international speaker he shows very quickly how a simple shift in mindset can have such a positive impact on the bottom line. He hates waffle, verbose explanations and jargon and his talks get straight to the point in a no nonsense but entertaining way. ’Hiding in Plain Sight - The Unintended Consequence of Technology on Profitability’ is a fresh and honest look at the 4th Industrial Revolution and the combined effects of technology, science and communications on productivity, wellbeing and shareholder value. He hosts a weekly radio show where business leaders from all sectors share seminal moments in their lives. Asking insightful questions he encourages guests to retrace their steps from the start of their career to where they are now and talk about key influencers that shaped their success. It gives listeners their weekly fix of encouragement to believe in themselves and demonstrates the abundance of resources that are available to help you complete your journey to destination SUCCESS. He is Past President of the Professional Speaking Association, Ireland, a member of the PSA and the Global Speaking Federation. 'The concept of business is simple until you let a human being near it' - Alec Drew We are pioneers living through very exciting times as we face the challenges of the new frontier which is recognised as the 4th Industrial Revolution. When most people think of Industrial Revolution they think of steam, mechanisation and stuff you read in history books when in fact they are periods of human evolution just like the one we are experiencing at the moment. Like all pioneers before us we will be traveling through unchartered territory and we must be careful not to let our eagerness to embrace all things new, to distract us from the dangers that lurk out there. This journey is different from any that mankind has taken in the past because for the first time ever, communications, science and technology have come together in ways we never expected, in ways we are struggling to understand and in ways we have yet to experience. it will require us to make some brave strategic decisions as we use the tools and knowledge of the past, assimilate the constant stream of information being placed before us and it will require an agile mindset to negotiate the continually evolving internal and external threats. The great news is that the information we need is all around us, we see examples of it every day in fact it is Hiding in Plain Sight. The reason that so many fail to see what is Hiding in Plain Sight in their business and why so few people react to it is probably information overload, or perhaps a rapid increase in daily distractions or perhaps a perception that these issues have a low impact on their organisation. So today I would like to highlight 3 areas that have an impact on all organisations. They are reputation vulnerability with the rise of the influencer, how to increase productivity and finally the need to reframe our strategy around cybercrime. He now shares this depth of experience, knowledge and love for sales with sales leaders and teams. In a Downturn, Provoke Your Customers! With Covid, Brexit and Putin playing havoc with the world economy, this is a tough time to be selling to business customers. Sometimes, the budget simply is not there. With less money to go around, proposals are subjected to higher levels of review in buying organisations. Rather than resign themselves to hearing the standard “Sorry, we have no budget for that,” some companies (even some very young start-ups) have found a way to reach their customers and motivate them to allocate the necessary funds. Using what we call provocation-based selling, they persuade customers that the solutions they bring to the table are not just nice but essential. Provocation-based selling goes beyond the conventional consultative or solution-selling approach, whereby the vendor’s sales team seeks out current concerns in a question-and-answer dialogue with customer managers. And it differs dramatically from the most common approach still in use—product-based selling, which pushes features, functionality, and benefits, usually in a generic manner. Provocation-based selling helps customers see their competitive challenges in a new light that makes addressing specific painful problems unmistakably urgent. JOE MCGIVERN CEO - SUPPORTIT "MODERN WORKPLACE - MODERN THREATS - A NEW APPROACH FOR SMES?" Speaker Bio Synopsis Joe McGivern is CEO of supportIT, a Dublin-based IT Services company and part of Viatel Technology Group. With over 25 years of working in the IT industry Joe McGivern knows that the path to successful IT is removing complexity and speaks with a refreshing honesty while avoiding "tech speak" and jargon. In today's interconnected and hybrid working world, security has never been more important. But as the number of worker locations and devices has increased so too has the number of threats. An array of tools now makes up the average CIO's arsenal. In fact, in the 2020 CISO Effectiveness Survey, Gartner found that 78% of CISOs have 16 or more tools in their cybersecurity vendor portfolio; 12% have 46 or more. Having too many security vendors results in complex security operations and increased security headcount. This also increases cost and training requirements. In "Modern Workplace, Modern Threats", Joe McGivern outlines a simpler, more consolidated approach to security that every SME can ascribe to. Joe focuses primarily on the modern SoC (Security Operations Centre) and how most security environments can be managed through a single pain of glass. Joe's approach makes this talk accessible to business leaders from non-technical roles and carries key tips and tricks to better manage your IT estate in a user-friendly, cost-effective and most importantly highly secure manner.
