ADAM SANDLER EXPLAINS THE 'PATHETIC' REASON HE HAS A BLACK EYE ON 'THE TONIGHT

Adam Sandler swung by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Monday, to promote
his new film, Hustle. But before that, he had to explain how an iPhone on his
lap and a tightly tucked-in bed sheet left him bloody. “I had an accident,
everybody,” Sandler said. “Everything's all right, but I wish it was a good
story it's pathetic.” He explained how he got into bed and the sheets were
tucked-in too tightly. When he tried to kick them loose with his feet, he forgot
his iPhone was on his lap. The phone went flying in the air and ended up
splitting the skin just beneath his eye. Sandler is no stranger to taking a
beating in his movies, so he just acted like everything was fine and went to
sleep. “I was bleeding terribly,” Sandler explained. “I mean, I thought it was
pitch black in the room, and I feel wetness and I tricked myself. I go, ‘This is
probably just thick tears’... I didn't want to get up, you know, because I was
tired. And I was like, ‘Ah, we'll fix that later.’ When he woke up in the
morning, there was so much blood everywhere that he knew he needed assistance.
“I said, ‘I've got to get this fixed,’” Sandler recalled. “So I went to the
Apple store.”

Adam Sandler was excited to talk about his new film, Hustle, on Monday's The
Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But before he could talk about anything,
Fallon asked him about a visible bruise and scab under his eye.

“I had an accident, everybody,” Sandler said. “Everything's all right, but I
wish it was a good story — it's pathetic.”

Sandler explained how he got into bed and the sheets were tucked in too tightly.
When he tried to kick them loose with his feet, he forgot his iPhone was on his
lap. The phone went flying in the air and ended up splitting the skin just
beneath his eye. It occurred at 4 a.m. so instead of getting up to take care it,
he just went to sleep.

“I was bleeding terribly,” Sandler explained. “I mean, I thought it was pitch
black in the room, and I feel wetness and I tricked myself. I go, ‘This is
probably just thick tears.’ ... I didn't want to get up, you know, because I was
tired. And I was like, ‘Ah, we'll fix that later.’”

When he eventually woke up, he was shocked by how bad the injury really was.

“I woke up, it was horrible,” Sandler recalled, “It was bleeding all over it was
gushing still and there was blood on the bed and all that stuff. So I said,
‘I've got to get this fixed.’ So I went to the Apple Store.”

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.

JOHN OLIVER TEARS APART THE ‘GOOD GUY WITH A GUN’ ARGUMENT

On Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Sunday, Oliver argued that politicians’
claims that schools need more police in order to prevent mass shootings deaths
is completely baseless. “An analysis of 179 shootings on school grounds, which
is a brutal thing to say out loud on its own, found no evidence that the
presence of school resource officers lessened the severity of school shootings,”
Oliver said. “14 million students go to a school with police but without a
counselor, nurse, psychologist, or social worker. That is 14 million kids who
are in closer proximity to a pair of handcuffs than they are to a medical or
mental health professional.” School resource officers also have the authority to
arrest students for something as innocuous as throwing candy or having a maple
leaf in their backpack. Parents of black students also worry that more police
means more discreminiation. “Cops in schools do tend to behave the same way they
behave outside of schools,” Oliver explained. “Which explains why black students
account for nearly a third of all students arrested, despite the fact that
that's twice their share of enrollment.” Oliver argued that the way to make
schools safer is to implement stronger gun control legislation outside of
schools, and provide counselors to tackle the mental health crisis inside of
schools.
