THE TOWN OF BRIDGEPORT, WEST VIRGINIA

Located in the heart of Western Virginia, Bridgeport is an ideal destination for
both leisure and business travelers. The area has a rich history that includes
the fur trade and is home to a number of hotels and restaurants. In addition,
there are a number of meeting and conference facilities that make the town a
great place to spend a weekend.


HISTORY OF THE FUR TRADE

Until the late 19th century, the majority of West Virginians depended on
subsistence farming and forests as their primary sources of food and shelter.
But as the nation began to grow, industry became an increasingly important part
of the state’s economy. The rapid growth of industries in the region led to an
acute need for labor. The state government recruited immigrants from other
nationalities and southern and eastern Europe, sending agents abroad to
capitalize on the ”New Immigration”.

The fur trade was an important part of Western Virginia’s early history. The
Shawnee, Mingo, and Delaware Indian tribes used the region for hunting. They
traded with both the French and the Americans. Although they were not a threat
to the English, their interests posed a serious threat to the colonial
settlements.


MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES

Located near the North Central WV Airport, the town of Bridgeport, West Virginia
offers a wide variety of amenities to make your business or social event a
success. From shopping and wine tasting to clay shooting, you’re sure to find
something to suit your needs. Whether you’re looking for a conference center or
a wedding venue, the town of Bridgeport, WV has you covered.

The state of the art Bridgeport Conference Center at Charles Pointe is equipped
to meet the demands of today’s business and social events. The center has more
than 16,000 square feet of meeting space, including the grand ballroom which can
accommodate up to 325 guests. The facility is also well-equipped with an outdoor
patio and plentiful natural light.


SHOPPING

Whether you are looking for a shopping experience or a night on the town,
Bridgeport WV has something to offer. The Plaza is the epicenter of the region,
with a whopping 15 stores to choose from. The mall opened in 1967, and was
modeled after similar venues in the Northeast. The Plaza is also home to the
state’s only wine tasting room, which is a fine place to unwind after a long day
of shopping. The mall is also a great spot for a family picnic or weekend
getaway.

The Plaza is also the site of the largest mall light show in the state, which
can be viewed from the rooftop patio. As for the mall itself, it is a mix of big
box retailers, boutiques, and independents. The aforementioned T-Mobile store is
located in the middle of it all. The store boasts knowledgeable and courteous
associates, and offers some pretty sweet deals on smartphones and other mobile
devices.


DINING

Located in central West Virginia, Bridgeport has a lot to offer visitors and
residents alike. Aside from the usual suspects (Hooters, Dairy Queen, etc.)
there are several local restaurants to be found. One of the better food and
drink options is Meagher’s Irish Pub at Charles Pointe. It is also home to the
state’s oldest microbrewery, Mountain State Brewing Company. In addition to the
aforementioned brews, the brewery’s bar menu offers a number of tasty choices.

The best way to enjoy your favorite brew is to take advantage of their patio.
Leashed dogs are welcome as well. While you are at it, you might want to get
your hands on the best fries around. The best time to dine is when the sun is
shining.


HOTELS

Located along Interstate 79, Bridgeport, West Virginia is a great stop for
travelers. The town is an outdoor lover’s dream. The city is home to a number of
popular attractions, including the Starving Artist Studio. It also offers a
variety of hotels for visitors.

The Wingate Hotel is one of the most popular hotels in Bridgeport. The Wingate
has a convenient location, less than a mile from the United Hospital Center. It
is also close to the airport. The hotel is also near Middletown Mall. It is
three and a half miles northeast of the Simpson Creek Covered Bridge.

The Comfort Suites Bridgeport – Clarksburg is within ten minutes’ walking
distance of the United Hospital Center. The hotel offers 83 non-smoking rooms,
including kitchenettes and living areas. The hotel also provides free breakfast.
The hotel’s rooms have cable television, refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee
makers. It has a fitness room with cardio machines and a printer/fax machine.
