DESCRIPTION
The Day Hikes of Yellowstone National Park Map Guide was designed to simply
answer the question, “Where should we hike today?” These maps take the wonderful
intuitiveness and visualization from a beautiful topographical map that Jake
built from the ground up and couple it with short descriptions of all 65 day
hikes that you’d get from a book to get you a sense of the trail. The magic
happens with Jake’s ranking of the trails using his expertise of comparing all
of them to help answer the question, “Should we hike trail A or trail B?”
To answer the question of “How hard is this trail?”, this map uses a slightly
different approach. Instead of using the very subjective
easy/moderate/difficult, the descriptions are grouped by distance. A brief look
at the elevation change, description, and color-coded trails let you know if it
is something you want to tackle. Trail steepness is calculated as level (green),
moderate incline (yellow), and steep (red), so you can quickly see if the
elevation change is spread out over a hike or all in one spot.
This waterproof map guide can be easily thrown into your backpack. You won’t
have to spend time wondering if the trail is one you should hike, you can easily
choose and go.
MAP FEATURES ARE:
* 65 day hikes ranked by Jake recommendations
* 9 self-guided walking area descriptions
* Color coded trail segments indicate trail steepness (See product photos. If
the trail is green, it’s level. If the trail is yellow, it’s got some
incline. If it’s red, it’s just plain steep.)
* Descriptions give you a sense of the hike
* Distances labeled between junctions and/or features
* Family friendly and accessible hikes labeled
* Topographic lines help determine elevation change
* Hikes that occur in Bear Management Areas identified
* Printed on recyclable, synthetic paper to be waterproof and tear resistant

Just received the Yellowstone Day Hikes map. Great map detail and direction
for my first journey to Yellowstone. The map has a great layout of the
Yellowstone area with each hike marked and color coded. There is even great
detail on EACH trail. I couldn’t ask for anything more in a great resource.
In the past I have relied on various websites for answers. I can’t wait
until Jake adds to his inventory on other destinations.

Day Hikes map arrived today and I could not be more pleased! Our family will
be hiking in YNP this summer and this map lists, describes, and categorizes
65 hikes. The map is beautiful, color-coded, and one that we will definitely
be using on our trip. The details on the hikes are interesting to read and
very informative. I can’t wait to get there on the trails that Jake

I bought this map and when Jake’s map of the Grand Tetons came out, I
ordered that one, too. As others have indicated, this map is incredibly
informative and easy to use. I bought numerous books in anticipation of our
trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons. In addition to the books I purchased, I
have Pinterest boards, and OneNote notebooks full of information. Turns out,
I can ditch all of that stuff and just use Jake’s maps. I couldn’t be
happier. I HIGHLY recommend these maps!

This past summer my family and I used your maps for hiking in Glacier,
Yellowstone and the Tetons. As a family of two boys ages 10 and 7, they were
great resources! All we had to do was look at what hikes Jake liked that
were under 5 miles, and hit the trail (and we also did some of the longer
ones, just turning around after a mile or so. I think your maps are a MUST
for families traveling together. One day we were driving in Yellowstone’s
Lamar Valley and realized we were close to one of Jake’s favorite hikes
(Trout Lake) and decided to quickly hop out and do a short hike. These maps
are great for both experienced hikers looking for long hikes and for
families looking for something shorter.

This map was foundational to my 10-day trip to Yellowstone and environs in
September 2020. It brings the mass of information available on the Park into
coherent form.
(Older eyes may wish to bring a small magnifying glass to read the names of
some of the features.)
The paragraph-long trail descriptions on the reverse side include
suggestions for extending a given hike, hints at history of the areas
traversed, and remarks on flora, fauna, and likely trail conditions (could
be wet or very dry and without shade).
Always a pleasure to have what I need on a single map.
