@damngoodtech@mastodon.social My thought was even if organizations create
accounts on the fediverse their posts may not be seen by people on other
instances. Even if they use hashtags that users can search by, their instance
needs to be federating with the other. If both instances join the same relay
server then when the emergency service creates a post say #hugevolcano and users
search for that hashtag they will see those posts.

Having a common relay server or even a few of them that people join there
instances to helps ensure critical information gets shared.

I believe that's how it would work but I could be wrong

Im looking to get the ball rolling with this project. One of the first ideas I
have in mind is to create an activitypub relay server that emergency management
focused instances can add to their servers, or ask their instance admins to add,
to federate to others.

it wouldn't be a closed relay so anyone could use it, but the focus would be to
get anyone interested in getting alerts from emergency services to add this
relay to their instance and also get emergency management instances all linked
together to share information faster/easier.

@lckrohjr@fediverse.krohsnest.com my goal is to get them on their own instances
and not necessarily host them on mine. I'm hoping to get together resources to
help them make the move and to also find ways to get people to connect with them
better to get the information they need

Im currently working on starting a project to build resources for small
organizations such as local non profit groups and emergency services to use to
get started on the fediverse and away from having to rely on the major social
media platforms to get there news and critical info out to people.

I have the domain names fediconnect.org and fediconnect.social I plan on using
for this.

Once I have the basics up and running I'm hoping to find a few people interested
in working on this project

Alright the instance is up. I decided to run Calckey on a self hosted Ubuntu
server. I used there Ubuntu install script and it seemed to work really well
